True, but you have to admit the set design and the atmosphere are top notch. The show hasn't completely grabbed me, but I'll certainly keep coming back for more. I'm 4 episodes in.

As for Kinnaman, don't judge him on the Robocop reboot or Suicide Squad. He was the best part of The Killing.

I was in Japan for a week and Star Trek: Discovery is on Netflix there so I watched the whole season, often at 3 am thanks to jet lag. I liked it—it’s a lot harder on its characters than TOS or TNG, and no one seems safe. It has a strong season arc and some interesting resonance frequencies/recurring themes. Sometimes the tech seemed more advanced than TOS, which it precedes (a lot of teleporting within the ship, which was rarely if ever done on subsequent series, for example), but some of that is down to production values. It will be interesting to see where they go with S2.

That sounds really good. I think I need a little Star Trek in my life.

I'm watching Castlevania. I was too into it at the beginning but now I'm hooked. Very pleased to see Warren Ellis can still be funny.

I'm enjoying it so far, but man there is a lot of world building taking place inside these first few episodes. So much terminology and high concept, I'm actually surprised the show hasn't buckled under the weight of its own ambition at this point.

I was a little wary at the notion of having Joel Kinnaman in the lead (he's not exactly a nuanced actor), but he's played the menacing, down trodden gun-for-hire remarkably well.

Thank you. I have been holding off for opinions and info. Maybe soon I will give it a go.

It was on "hiatus" while they decided what they wanted to do with it. They were hoping for a third and final season with the abbies as more of a central focus. They really should've kept it as a limited series, especially since it pretty much burned through all three books in season 1.

Wayward Pines, Big Little Lies, The Handmaid's Tale...limited series aren't so limited anymore, are they?

Good, that show was rubbish. I couldn't even watch the second season.

No, they don't seem to be anymore Ricky. Although I really wish they were. Can't they just make a very solid single season and then move on to something else. They usually end up ruining them by continuing on.

Speaking of limited series based on books, everybody should be watching The Alienist.

This is exactly my type of show, and well acted to boot. I love the era, the actors, the story, the mystery, and the big twist last episode.

I liked Everything Sucks! on Netflix -- it's like The Wonder Years for the 1990s. Charming and funny, some terrific performances, especially by the two main kid characters. A pleasant change from heavy drama.

I really want to watch it, Bev, but I’m afraid it might just bring up the weirdness that was my high school life in the 1990s, since it seems to be really familiar to my experiences then. But glad that it was good, from your description.

I had no idea it had bad reviews. I guess I never come across them because I thought it was getting a lot of positive reception. Everyone I know that's watching it has been raving about it.

If the reviews suck I usually end up liking the show/movie. Critics usually have their noses so high up in the air they can't get a good view of the show.

    Has it?

I honestly don't usually look at reviews for TV shows. I'm not really sure why. One reason is that many critics only get the first episode or two to review. Many shows take time to get going, so it's hard to rate it after a few episodes. I doubt a critic goes back and amends his or her review after completing and enjoying a show they originally gave a negative review to.

    That's just me.

I'm not sure if I talked about this show much last year, but it was one of my favorite shows of the year. That show is Timeless. It's easily one of the better network shows on TV. I beg you to watch it if you like time travel stuff.

The show actually got cancelled, but the outcry was so loud, they brought it back. I'm telling you, the show is a lot of fun.

I'm not sure. I mean, there haven't been any episodes about hockey or maple syrup, but that doesn't mean anything. I suppose they might shoot the show in Canada.
