Does this make sense or no?
Yes, that is correct. Most collectors (myself included) much prefer the priced dust jackets for collecting purposes. Most feel the unpriced jackets for export are worth less than the priced ones.

Whoops! I didn't see jhanic's response before I posted mine. I covered the same ground.

Advise on current market prices for the following dustjackets in new condition:
    • The Gunslinger (Grant) 2nd Edition
    • Wizard and Glass (DTIV) Grant Trade

P.S. Probably worthless, but if anyone needs a DJ for the Dark Harvest S/L Fritz Leiber Chronicles, I have 7. Free of course to friends.

Hi, I just picked up this book which was missing from my collection. Its in Fine condition and a stated First Edition with correct pricing of 8.95 on the jacket. I know this book doesn't pop up too often for sale but wanted to know opinions on what the book is worth in this condition. I think I got a great price for it but just wanted to see what you guys thought !!! Thanks

    Jerome-

Wizard: I just sold my one extra (still in tube from Grant) for $30 (maybe it was $25). But that was to a good friend here on the site. I think you could get $35-$40 maybe.

Gunslinger 2nd: My guess is you could get $75 for a pristine copy, maybe a bit more.

Could someone tell me what a fair price would be for a first fine/fine copy of Wizard and Glass?

    Ricky-

Boy, this one has really come down in price over the last several years. It used to go routinely at $200+ and initially held up when other prices started to fall. Now, I'd say a good price would be $100-$125 in Fine/Fine unread condition.

    Thanks David.

The lowest price that I found on ABE for a copy was $250. I think I'll start starving myself now so that I can save up.

I think you can find them on eBay for $110 - $120 range these days. No need to pay $250 on ABE.

Don't forget that a lot of the time the prices are negotiable on ABE.

I was getting ready to put one on Ebay still in original shrinkwrap for $200 plus include an original jacket never placed on a book. High? I don't know. I'm going to try

I've been surprised before with Ebay. One minute it looks like the bottom is falling, I post something a collector is looking for on ebay and he pays for it.

Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it. I'm sure a good deal is hiding out there somewhere. Hopefully one comes along soon.

My school library has a first/first copy of W&G. Though it's still a lib. copy, would it be beneficial to see if I could buy it? Just curious to see if it would have enough value for me to go for it.

Of course it depends on how worn the copy is and how many defacing things (stamps, etc.) are on it, but usually ex-lib copies are worth about 10% of the value of a fine copy.

I'd say about good-very good with the DJ in fine condition. I'll have to go check it out some more. I'm sure it'd be a nice placeholder though.

    Default Shipping insurance question...

This is the kind of question I should have asked before laying out $$ for shipping insurance, but whatever...

What's the best option on high-end shipping insurance? Above what USPS will allow for? I knew it would be pricey, but I was surpirsed how expensive the company I used was. So for next time, any other options?

Haha...why would I spam about shipping insurance?

More annoyingly...I just looked up at USPS - which does insure up to $5000. I could have just walked in to the post office and paid about $90, so why did Postal Center USA charge $177?

This is what I get for not doublechecking...the $80 lazy tax...

As E. Taylor says below, I guess the advantage of dealing with a company is you have somebody you can yell at, rather than the USPS, which is the government....that's lame, though.

I'm finding out the hard way right now that Canada Post has new insurance policies that amount to it being impossible to get an insurance claim settled.

Something I sold on eBay six months ago went missing, it was insured so I reimbursed my buyer right away and have waited until now to get the $$ back from Canada Post.

Today I get a letter saying my claim has been rejected. I use their online shipping tool to save time, and it turns out that even though I paid for insurance with this shipping tool, only an original register printed receipt from a retail store can be used as proof of shipment.

Further, I'm told that the sale price and insured price of an online purchase don't count for the amount you'll be reimbursed. The original purchase price is all they will reimburse you, and you need an original receipt for this too. I asked them, "So if I have a rare Beatles album, I need an original receipt from the 60s and even then I'll only be reimbursed the original $3 purchase price, even though I sell it and insure it for $500?" and I was told thats the new policy.

So unless this gets resolved, I'm going to be finding a new shipping partner other than Canada Post.

I have my collection insured with Collectibles Insurance Services. I am automatically insured (whether I am the buyer or the seller) for items in transit. The limits are $200 for "no signature required", $2500 for "signature required USPS" and $60,000 for Registered Mail, FedEx, etc. I never buy any extra insurance. If you are going to be doing a lot of business like that you might look into it. My collection is also insured if I am in transit to a show, exhibition, etc.

    Rahfa,

Above the $5000 USPS will insure, if you use registered mail, USPS will insure up to $25,000, according to what I read on USPS.com.

    Bob,

Would the deductible for the insurance not be increased if for example you might one day claim a package worth $500 was lost in the mail?. Is it worth the potential extra deductible than paying for insurance?.
