There are even fewer real S/L's if you count "new" books. I would count Joyland, The Wind Through The Keyhole and 11/22/63 as "real" S/L's (an S/L issued when the book was first released). The rest, IMO, are manufactured rarities.....anthologies and anniversary editions designed by the small press publishers to separate the collector from his money as ruthlessly and completely as possible. I fall for this game too....as quickly as (or quicker than) most. But looking at the list tippy4 posted really drove the point home to me that we are being taken for a ride. A ride that most of us willingly take.

Interesting the way you put that Bob. And yes.... I'm willing to take the ride within reason. PS's lettereds I will most likely never own unless they drop significantly in value... Other than that... Bring them on haha

Skeleton Crew from PS will be signed. I believe it has yet to be confirmed as to whether the lettered 'Salem's will be signed or not.

I've been keeping this post updated. I'm getting the information from Amazon and the Simon & Schuster site. Actually, just had a look there now and I see a bunch of new ones. End of Watch and Dark Tower MMP's. Here's the Pocket Books list, and the trade paperbacks.

Question. There are 2 UK gift editions that have flimsy slipcases. You can stare at them long enough to see them deteriorate. I have both the Insomnia and Nightmares and Dreamscapes. Dolores Claiborne would probable fall into this category too. Would the books lose value if I dumped these awful slipcases and have Jeff make slipcases for these books? Thanks

I'd think so as they were the ones originally made for the books. If you go that route, I'd keep the originals in case you decide to sell later down the road.

I think Brian861's advice is solid. But what do you think is causing your slipcases to deteriorate? I have had all of those books on my shelves for years and the slipcases still look as new.

I think Brian861's advice is solid. But what do you think is causing your slipcases to deteriorate? I have had all of those books on my shelves for years and the slipcases still look as new.

It's the flimsy cloth sealed edges that are ruffling off slightly. Moving books around a bit, new books, reordering them in different orders/shelves is my guess. I could try archival glue?

I don't believe these books have a whole lot of value....but yes, it will diminish if they do not have their original cases.

Depends how much it is. But definitely consider charging it to a card. Try find one with zero interest for 12 months or so then be sure to pay it off.

Save your money. If you can't buy it straight out, then wait until you can. If you charge it and pay high interest, you could end up in 3 or 4 years paying twice the original cost.
