This copy sold for $506 shipped, and seems comparable (although this one has a small rip on DJ....mine does not).

This copy sold for $604 shipped and also seems comparable. My book also has the "speckling" to the the bottom of the page block like this one does.

Not thrilled about the speckling....as it was not pictured or described in the auction.
I also think you did pretty good. The biggest concern with this book is spine fade, the first comparison copy you list has massive fade, almost all of the yellow "glow" around the book title text has disappeared. Your copy seems to be only lightly faded. I would take small nicks in the DJ over spine fade any day.

This is mine. I think I paid around $425. It shows a good comparison of faded/non-faded

To my knowledge no other King novels were remaindered in that way. I have other Doubleday books from that era that have it so it may have been common practice at Doubleday for a while.

For King collectors the important one is SHADOWS, an anthology published by Doubleday in 1978 which contains the first appearance of the King short story "Nona." Remainder speckling is very common with this book.

A quick scan through my database shows HEALER by F. Paul Wilson (Doubleday, 1976) and THE PARALLAX VIEW by Loren Singer (Doubleday, 1970) in my collection also with remainder spray.

p.s. THE PARALLAX VIEW is a very important title in the publishing history of Stephen King.

It was a book that King checked out of his local library. He got the name of it's editor (who worked for Doubleday) and decided to send Getting it on (Rage) to him. As it happens that editor had left Doubleday and so asked Bill Thompson to review the Manuscript. That started the relationship between budding author and Editor.

King felt the tone of The Parallax View had similarities to what he was writing. He sought out the publisher thinking that they might publish him too.

All of the above. Since the editor of The Parallax View had left the letter was given to Bill Thompson who was working in (I think) Special Projects. I think this actually included things like cookbooks and how-to manuals. Thompson started corresponding with King and the rest, as they say, is history.

Actually I don't think King knew the name of the editor of The Parallax View. The letter he initially sent to Doubleday (as I recall the story) was addressed only to "The editor of The Parallax View."

My info comes from George Beahm. He mentions the book in "Stephen King from A to Z". The passage reads:

"King checked out this novel from the Bangor Public Library and, noting the name of it's editor, decided to send Getting it On (which would eventually be published as rage) to Doubleday, to the editor cited in the acknowledgements of The Parallax View."

I'm sure your info is better sourced though Bob!

    According to Ms. Mod:

My understanding is that the 150 copies will only be available at the San Diego Comic-con--at least for now. There will also be promotional t-shirts at the Con.

Just got my copy (one of the perks of the job ). There's an actual story and gorgeous illustrations by Ned Dameron who was the artist for The Waste Lands.

It doesn't sound very promising with all the people who attend SDCC

Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. I just scanned my copy of The Parallax View and do not see any mention of the editor. I don't think it is usual practice to do so unless the author says so in the acknowledgements. There are no acknowledgements in my copy.

Interesting, looks like GB may have 'gilded' that story slightly then.

I had a copy with no speckling, to the best of my memory. It came with a Doubleday Review Copy card and was signed by King on the Table of Contents page in 1979.

I wonder who this mysterious "beryl evans" will really end up being? They're acting like a physical person will be at SDCC and I can't imagine it's King(but boy if he pre signed in advance for this 150 only that would be something ay?). I'm assuming this is a tie-in/promotion for the upcoming film? Don't you guys think this will go for insane amounts on Ebay? Especially since Ned illustrated it and there will be a mystery sig, not to mention the extreme limitation. Hopefully there will be a regular version released at some point but who knows. I am looking forward to seeing what exactly this ends up being.....
