I have been thinking that this slipcased version may be copies done by the publisher for the contributors. No way to prove that unless we track down Chuck Miller or one of the contributors. The pages are also arranged a bit differently. The signature page is on the left in the regular signed edition and on the right in the slipcased edition.

I think it is cool, Alan, that yours was also signed by George Romero. Do you know the story behind that?

Sorry no. I bought it off ebay, and the seller did not state anything about the origin.

You posted the info on the discussion tab for the Catalog entry but no pictures. If you sent me the pics, then I overlooked that part.

I've been trying to dig up some information on this "special" limited of FEAR ITSELF (one of my favorite books about King) with little luck. Found out that Chuck Miller passed away in May 2015 and I haven't found contact info for Tim Underwood yet. I have other sources...

Fear Itself is one of my favorite books too. I think it was the first of many books to collect essays about King. The ones that followed didn't do much for me but Fear Itself had some really good stuff in it and, at the time, there was nothing else like it.

I've touched base with Peter Straub about this edition to see if he's able to shed any light on it.

Peter Straub got back to me quick: "These copies of the Underwood-Miller book are very handsome and clearly designed for collectors like yourself, but I'm not sure I have ever seen a copy. I'm pretty sure the boys did not send them out to contributors, although they were ordinarily pretty generous with their special editions. I'm packing up books now in preparation for a move, and all my King books are boxed up, so I can't check my shelves, but as I say, I don't think I've ever owned one of these fancy objects. I wish I could be of more help."

Well....thought he would be able to help. I have one more contact I can try.

Yours is the only copy to have 12 signatures, yes? All the other print run copies have only the announced 11, yes? If so, the catalog should only reflect the 11 sigbatures, right? Or am I confused again?

I mean if I were to take any S/L to a King signing event and obtain a second signature, the catalog shouldn't reflect that should it?
You are confused These are 2 distinctly different King Signed Limited Editions. The catalog lists all versions of signed/limiteds, i.e. Lettered, Numbered, PCs, Audio, Gift, Prototypes and portfolios.

This is what is in the datalog: Fear Itself signed Limited 1/225 issued without a slipcase, unnumbered, signed by all eleven contributors. Fully leather bound.

The "new" one that Bob and myself pictured is a separate (better?) edition, which has different end papers, different binding, includes slipcase, but has exactly the same signature sheet. I do not know how many were issued. This would be classed as a "Presentation Copy", or an "Artist Copy".

The fact that mine has an extra signature is neither here nor there. It's no different than someone getting a Chadbourne remarque in their S/L.

Ahhhhh, now I see!!! You're darn right I was confused!! Thanks for taking the time to clarify this for me, my good man!!! Sorry if I appeared "obtuse". I just wasn't "getting it" at all.

Can anybody tell me what the story is with the "Black Taped Spines" on some of the DT proofs?

Matt is selling a DT VI on eBay/Betts and I know absolutely nothing about them. Are they legit? Scarce? Value?

Being a book reviewer, I can tell you that sometimes publishers (at least some of the big New York ones), print out extra proof copies to be sent if a reviewer requests one and all their previous copies have already gone out. When this happens sometimes they print it out inner-office and bind it with the black tape (probably an interns job). I've received several review copies that were only produced as eBooks but were sent to me (as I don't read ebooks), printed from their office, with the black tape spine.

I have a signed Joyland paperback on the way, and would love to get a slipcase. Unfortunately, the CD slipcases seem very hard to come by. Does anyone have a different slipcase that they've used for this edition? I have a few Jeff Whiley-made slipcases, but I'm not sure if he does them in a smaller scale that would fit the paperback. Any suggestions?

Jeff can make any size, just drop him a note with dimensions.
"A real limited edition, far from being an expensive autograph stapled to a novel, is a treasure. And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King

Thanks Simon. Now that you mention that, I do remember seeing a slipcase for The Green Mile paperback set. So, yeah, I would think he could definitely do this too.

But Windows allows you to run apps while simulating older versions of windows. Sometimes works...
