Voltr0n never returned my $5 deposit for the DT7 book circulation. I never asked for it back though. It wasn't worth the mental energy. That whole book circulation was awesome. I was amazed that it actually survived it's tour without disappearing along the way. Rachel, I may have some of the photos of it with King that you had posted.

I made the donation for the "19" to support operating costs. I do remember a lot of incensed discussion that the money went to car repairs rather than site maintenance. I was bummed the site ended, but I didn't really care about the $10 or whatever it was. I figured it was a small price to pay, even in arrears, for a lot of good years where he was covering the expenses.

I personally don't care (and never did) about that prize. I didn't like the fact that my emails about the subject were ignored but not those messages where I pointed out an auction for a shirt or something alike.

Anyway, this was more than one decade ago. JR is trying to rebuild his collection and reputation so hopefully no one else can point out something alike.

There was another member (I remember his name was Gabriel an his wife was sick) who offered to buy a comic for me, took the money and disappear. Just a few bucks that didn't change my life. It's the attitude of not replying what I didn't like.

Yeah, not too sure why this issue is being brought up again. This was a time over 10 years ago when I was going through a very rough patch. I've apologized to Ari on this board publically in the past and will do so again if needed, and I'd be happy to send him anything in the mail to make up for it, but at this point he probably has everything I would be able to give.

Just to say that in the past year or so, I've sold a few items to Jonathan, never had any issue.

Slight change of subject. I've been looking through the 50+ pages and most of the "bouncing boobs" images are broken links. I'm considering pruning the bulk of them.

I've also sold Jonathan a few things without incident and with friendly email exchanges. Many moons before my time but sounds like Jonathan is taking a step in the right direction. Hopefully he can make amends with Ari and things will be settled. It takes a big person to admit they were wrong and to try and atone for it. Maybe even a bigger person who can forgive the transgression, accept the olive branch, and move forward. I have the same hope for another member and myself.

I can PERSONALLY attest to the upstanding nature of Jonathan. I have known him for many a year and actually met him when he was a small "pup" years ago at Palavercon. I can attest to the fact that a DECADE ago he fell on hard personal times and must be given a pass for that period (if you knew the story you would cry for him)...in the last number of YEARS, JR has been rebuilding his collection slowly, is a SOLID Betts Books customer with PERFECT credit/reputation.

People, leave his PAST alone, be forgiving and deal with the present JR. 'Nuff said.

Thank you Tommy and David for your kind words! David - You've been a tremendous supporter in helping me get my collection back up and going, can't thank you enough! I made my mistakes, I'll own up to them and I'm trying to make them right. Thanks all for understanding.

None of this is even a little bit my business - but it is a public forum.

If Ari's happy with how that many-years-old situation resolved - whatever it is - then yes, it's the "past."

If Ari's not happy - and there is something unresolved, then it's NOT the past, it's still the present.

JReitan said whatever it was was apologized for and was resolved.

Other than the two of them it's not our "past" to say it should be moved on from.

Seems like Ari's not happy, but not expecting anything more...and JReitan feels like he all he could do. Looks like it's settled. Still, just because a few deals went okay for other members doesn't have anything to do with two other people's "past" or "present" feelings or experiences.

Does anybody remember the guy who posed as Stephen King on TDT.net? I know that story's come up before...it was funny at the time.

I vaguely recall that it happened, but the details escape me. I'd love to know more.

I also remember Uncle Fardo. He was the funniest person on the site, and I never could figure out who he/she was. Perhaps even more than one person pulled it off.

Maybe this will jog somebody else's memory for better, more specific details.

Basically, there was a guy whose name escapes me but he posted pretty cogent comments, and had a lot of good things to say about writing and books - he DID know what he was talking about the vast majority of the time.

his style was similar to King's - not in words, specifically, but style. It sounded a lot like King.

Now - the part I don't remember is how it went from an intelligent poster with a King style to people thinking he might BE King. I feel like he donated money to a few things, and I'm pretty sure he helped somebody with a signed book, maybe? He WAS a good guy...even as I type this, I feel like I remember that he dropped hints that he had a hookup in King's office...and slowly over time, implied he knew Marsha better than most (but my memory is iffy). And again, I feel like he proved some sort of connection with a signed book - so it was POSSIBLE. It wasn't just some clown on a message board running his mouth.

There was a point where people started asking him outright, and he did not confirm or deny, but he was cagily evasive - but obviously there were suspicions about his motives. Of the people who cared, most didn't really believe he was - but WANTED to believe, and then some of course flat-out DID believe. Because he HAD helped people out in a few times - so it wasn't like he wasn't backing it up.

The actual emails were posted, but finally Tyler (I think?) emailed him a catfish email where he played along with it and was basically "If you are King, I'll never tell anybody, but this is incredible you're on the site, blah blah..." without actually believing it was him. And then the guy actually said "yes, I am King, but don't tell anybody." I wish I'd thought to copy it, because it was VERY pretentious - he was full-on acting at that point. I can't remember any lines from it, but it was written in the very informal style you'd expect from King - the guy was a great mimic.

But since the whole thing was a trap, obviously Tyler told everybody and banned him from the site - I can't remember the actual clinching evidence, but it's not a case where "wait, maybe it was King and you banned him by mistake!" They did something to confirm it wasn't him - I think Tyler might have contacted Marsha to ask, and King himself said it wasn't...in fact, again, as I type, that's the memory that comes to mind. That Marsha was like "King didn't even know the site existed until you just told me." Or something equally soulcrushing at the time.

But I don't remember the guy's username or anything...and I think once banned, that was just the end. He didn't plead his case or anything. There were people on his side - he HAD helped people, so that was baffling.

And his posts were very good, and his observatons I recall being pretty well-considered..he wasn't a blowhard - I remember early on I had suspicious that it COULD be King, even though I knew it wasn't - but I think it was just a normal fan who was aping King's writing style and then he wanted to have fun with neither confirming or denying, and then it just out of hand. I felt bad, because unless I'm totally misremembring, the reason people ended up trusting him was because he was helping people out - it wasn't like people were giving him money, it was the other way around. Very strange event.

I was just an audience member, though, not any kind of participant. It was good gossip for a little while, but it faded quickly - of course the people who were fooled were disappointed and didn't want to talk about it again, and even the people who never believed were still sad that a good member was a fraud AND I'm pretty sure it didn't help that the one response from the actual, real SK was fairly dismissive of the site itself. I have a memory that Marsha's response was pretty cold - not unfriendly, just utterly dismissive.

JReitan sent me a message sincerely apologizing. It's a closed matter and I'm glad he's building a positive reputation nowadays.

As for the SK guy, I kinda remember a little bit about that. Same happened in Dt.com, right? Wasn't a member named Banko_Skanks?

    Ari,

    I'm glad he satisfied you.

I am still worried about, and haven't heard back from the members about issues from post #132, and #133.

Brice comes around every few weeks, and obviously John Hanic is in a care facility (seemingly in worse health than JReitlan47). Hopefully both of them can confirm that everything has been resolved to their satisfaction.
