What last night's episode cemented for me was that we all need to just enjoy the show on a surface level. Forget about the lore, mythology, 'deeper meanings' - the creators either don't know or don't care about any kind of pay off at this point.

Just enjoy the explosions and swords and fire breathing dragons and shit. That's all we can ask of it now.

after watching ep 4... I am beginning to climb on your side of the fence. massive story holes everywhere. lazy write-offs. I feel like D&D had an impossible task...

This whole season is feeling rushed. Even more so as it goes on. Can someone please remind me why they're ending it so soon? It seems like we could use another season to tie everything up, and it would have given them time to flesh out the storylines from what we've already seen.

I think that is a pessimistic view and don't agree. He will finish the books. the Winds of Winter is "almost" done

just not quickly enough for the folks who "want" it done

They want to be done with the show because their task has morphed from a Herculean effort to an impossible one. They are not GRRM. With the supercorporation slashing high price budget passion projects from the Old Guard, it is impossible to create a finish that would be worthy of GRRMs worldbuilding (and ending) skills.

They are doing broad brush strokes only. In order to (somewhat) satisfy the ravenous fan demand for the content. The corporation is capitalizing... imagine this

How long have we been hearing it’s “almost done”? We heard that at the start of season 6. It’s been 8 years so far since a dance with dragons and the guy won’t even answer questions on winds.
