I'd managed to get 329 of DT1 and DTII so we did a swap........It is possible!!! It also did take me 25 years to complete the set!!!
WOW! ... A colossal effort pays off over decades. Congratulations!

That's dedication. Impressive show of patience and determination
It was an emotional moment when I finally got the matching set.....This site made it possible, as did the help of Stu at Betts and Karen at DMG who acted as the secure handlers of the books!!.

I dont know about others on here, but i'd been a long time King fan as a teenager, but had never heard of the Dark Tower until I bought Douglas Winters book on King (The Art of Darkness) from a second hand bookshop in New York in the summer of 1987 while I was on a student exchange from the UK. Not only was I amazed to discover a King book i'd never heard of, I was even more fascinated when I found my own name associated with the title.....Michael Whelan!!

At that point I was hooked and I wrote to Donald M Grant to try and get a copy and even went to the British Library as they are supposed to have a copy of every book published - needless to say they didnt have the DT1!!. All I could buy was the just published DTII trade edition. Even that was pricey with my zero income and a student grant!!! 30 years on and I just hope that we will see some more DT books - i'm optimistic as Mr King said there would be more at the reading he did in Paris that we went to.

And like all treasures do, it transforms the responsible owner into a caretaker, and being a caretaker of something as fragile and easily destroyed as ideas and images is not a bad thing but a good one...and so is the re-evaluation of what books are and what they do that necessarily follows." - Stephen King

Yep, unfortunately I have #644, so no matching Gunslinger for me. I started with DT4 and was able to buy the next 5 books from Grant. I found DT3 on Ebay and then Rick helped me find the last book, DT2, two years ago. It took me about 13 years to complete.

I've thought about purchasing a full set under 500 or possibly trying to find the very rare PC copy. I do have a very fine Gunslinger 1st, signed/personalized to me by King and double signed and remarqued by Whelan - so that's a pretty nice place holder!
