Those are great RF. I'm glad someone else enjoys Gone South. It's a book I don't hear talked about to much but I've always loved it.
P.S. Gone South is actually the first McCammon book I ever read and is what hooked me.
Gone South was quite funny.
I like pretty much everything McCammon has written. For some reason I felt let down with GONE SOUTH, though. I probably need to reread it. I remember at the time really liking the beginning and getting to know the characters. It seemed to have a lot of potential but just didn't deliver (for me anyway).
I thought of it as "popcorn". Enjoyable, hard to stop, but leaving no lasting "deep" impression. At the time it was a refreshing change from McCammon's serious novels. Almost the same impression that "Fires of Eden" by Dan Simmons provided.
I just started reading THE WOLF'S HOUR (the recent limited edition). I'm looking forward to how the story will develop!
I would agree with you that there wasn't any real depth to the story although there were a few aspects that have stuck with me over the years. I thought he did a great job in giving a fast paced and fun piece with enough characterization to move the story along.Originally Posted by Randall Flagg

They also announced that they'll be publishing The Providence Rider, the fourth Matthew Corbett book, in 2012.
