Wow, some fantastic deals on Xbox right now.

I was really sad that I downloaded Doom only for it to leave Gamepass before I could play it, but I just picked it up for 12 bucks. Nice!

Then I picked up the Metro 2033 and Last Light Redux bundle for five bucks! I already had them because of Game Pass, but I own them for life now.

Then I also picked up Inside, the follow up to Limbo, for 6 bucks.

Now I've got Assassin's Creed Odyssey Gold downloading and it was 93 bucks off! All the DLC plus AC:3 remaster for 32 bucks? Yes fucking please.

Odyssey is a brilliant game. Make sure you play as Kassandra though. Not only is she the cannon protagonist, the voice actor is so good. The other guy, not so much.

I'm really digging Catherine right now. I got really frustrated with the first boss because the puzzles weren't clicking for me, but then they clicked. Puzzles are at the moment the right amount of challenging so I don't get stuck too long at a part. I wonder how much difficult the puzzles get on the hardest difficulty.

I've decided that I'm gonna cave and buy AC Valhalla once its out. Maybe it'll be the game to rekindle my AC love. We'll see...

    Here's a closer look at the PS5

All in all I was very happy with the event. Lots of great AAA titles announced, and a bevy of indie titles. So much variety, looks like there'll be something for everyone.

Also, beyond stoked to see the return of Ratchet & Clank

The titles I'm super excited for:

    1. Ratchet & Clank - Rift Apart
    2. Resident Evil VIII
    3. Horizon Zero Dawn - Forbidden West
    4. Little Devil Inside
    5. Death Loop

Also, I was hoping that Pragmata was secretly a trailer for Dead Space 4, but it looks like that's never gonna happen now

Y'all know I'm a PC gamer so this has no bearing on me. I do hate platform exclusivity though. It's fine for some games to be launched exclusively on the PlayStation, sure, but eventually those should be made available for PC, too. I don't understand that.

Also, we're getting another game set in the World of Darkness universe, in addition to Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, and I'm pretty excited (maybe there will be a tiny crossover even? Bloodlines 2 is set in Seattle and this one's set in the "Northwest"):

It's all about the money dude. Exclusives = more people buy your console instead of a competing one. Now that the next gen consoles are arriving, exclusives will mean everything to Sony/Microsoft as they will be the main selling point for customers deciding where to spend their hard earned cash this holiday season.

But what if I don't want any console, ever? No matter the exclusive, I just can't play with a controller. Sure I guess there might be some keyboard and mouse compatibility, but it's not universal. Plus my PC isn't super high-end, but games look and play much better than on consoles for me.

Did you never play any of the older consoles like NES or SNES or Sega Genesis?

I started out with a joystick and a single button on the Atari 2600 but moving to the NES controller with the directional pad and then beyond was pretty natural.

I've played a bit on probably every console since SNES and Sega Genesis, at friends's houses and such. My younger brother owned a PS3 and I played a bit of The Last of Us (this was years ago) and couldn't do it for more than 20 minutes or so. So no, I have never played anything on a console at length, I have always been gaming on PCs ever since I got my first computer in 1993 or 1994 (Doom and Wolf 3D!).

I have a PS4. I went from the SNES to the PS1 and have just stuck with Sony ever since. My kids have all the Nintendo consoles (Gamecube, N64, Wii, GBA, DS, Switch, etc...) and I've played a few games on each of those systems but never really liked their controller layouts. I've never owned any of the Xbox consoles.

I'm pretty minimal on what games I buy since I typically don't get a lot of playing time anymore. For the PS5 the only games I'll probably play are the new Spider-Man and The Last of Us 2. Then whenever the new GTA game or Kingdom Hearts game comes out. If they release a 3rd South Park game I'd play that as well.

I get you, if you've been playing on PC for that long it'll def be difficult to go back to console gaming.

PC gaming is obviously the pinnacle of gaming from a hardware, horsepower perspective, but there are so many experiences on console gaming that I've had throughout the years that remind me why I love the medium in the first place. Console gaming has provided gamers with many, many "games as art" experiences through the years that are viewed as masterpieces of story telling, available only on their respective consoles. That's worth more to me than "it looks nicer on PC".

The Nintendo Switch is the first console I've bought in a long time, and only because I needed something portable for long trips (used to use my DS and my Yoga trainer game for that, can't find either right now, so now I have a Switch and a Yoga trainer game, but I also grabbed Pokemon Shield, Overcooked 2, Drawngeon, and a couple other games to keep me occupied if I have to go out of town for something, which my town sucks so I generally tend to), since every other game I play is a PC game but my tower is very much not portable. And I wouldn't even have done that, if I wasn't getting more than enough money on the CERB. I've lived well below the poverty line up until this pandemic, and I don't tend chase AAA titles or generally purchase games that aren't either very cheap, or on sale. I couldn't justify the cost when my bills were all on the edge of no-pay disco constantly, and if I couldn't justify $80 for a game, I definitely couldn't justify a few hundred for a console lol. I also tend to have a preference toward 2d games rather than 3d games, because I tend to have less difficulty figuring them out. First person games mess me up the worst, I have the most difficulty with games in first person view. 3rd person over the shoulder isn't a whole lot better, but I can at least play those without wanting to put my fist through the wall every five minutes.

I'm kinda of hesitant to post here because I already feel like no one plays or likes the games I like. My partner is the only person who will, but I know it's because they feel bad for me that no one else does and they wanna make me feel better, so while it's nice that they play with me, I feel bad because it isn't because they want to play the games, but because they want to do stuff with me so I don't feel like shit that no one ever wants to play or likes the games I become attached to. I'm hesitant because I'm doubtful that there will be any interest in the games I like, and based on the little I've read, I've not seen anything to tell me there's going to be anything for me to actually talk about here.

That said, some of the games I actually play and wish more people cared to play with me:
I play Civ 6, but no one ever wants to actually play together for whatever reason, teams or otherwise, and the few times people've agreed to its been one off and never finished
Project Zomboid, 725 hours on record as of this moment, my most played game in the last 10 years since I've been a PC gamer on Steam (there's a 200-400 hours gap between it and the other most played games)
Stardew Valley (this one people do play with me but I run into the problem of it being so infrequent that any time we actually go to play the other person insists on starting a new farm because they can't remember what we were doing, and when that happens like 15-20 times in a row across several people, you kinda lose interest in suggesting it as an option knowing it will never get out of the first month of the game)
    Dungeon of the Endless
    Lethal League Blaze
    Starbound
    Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball
    Astroneer
The Forest (not overly great at this one, but the people who convinced me to get it played with me for like two days before they got bored and beat it without me and now that they have beaten it, refuse to play with me anymore, so I personally never actually got to beat it since it's not a game I would play by myself, but playing with others was a lot of fun (when they don't convince you to spend your money on something on the promise of beating it together, and then blaze ahead without you and forget you even exist and move on to another game within two weeks, that is. i don't let people convince me to buy games anymore, that's happened too many times, Astroneer is another one of those))

I have a TON of single player games, but honestly, gaming for me is supposed to be a community experience so to speak, and I get far less enjoyment out of playing something completely by myself than I do out of playing a game that requires cooperation and communication. I haven't even so much as installed and run more than half the games I own because I have no motivation to play something if I'm alone with it. The few exceptions are simulator games like the Jurassic World one or Rimworld.
But I am a writer, I tend to not spend time on things like games if I am doing them alone, because I could be using that time to work on some aspect of one of my projects. I don't really tend to want to game if I don't have someone to do it with.
It wasn't always like that, but it's how I've ended up.

Hey Can, welcome back! Glad to see you posting again

I think you'll find a pretty wide range of interests here in terms of the kinds of titles we play. Obviously with the PS5 unveiling yesterday - and given that new console showcases tend to use AAA titles as a way to show off the prowess of their machine - we're discussing the bigger budgeted games.

On a personal level, I enjoy the big budget FPS as much as I enjoy the quieter, charming retro games. It's like movies, all depends what you're in the mood for. I don't do PC gaming myself but @Mae does, she'll be a better person to chime in on those kinda games.

And for me, Single player campaigns still reign supreme. I enjoy MP games with my buds where we can sip beer and talk shit as we rove around a world or whatever. But the story telling aspect of the medium is still at its peak and most impactful when playing a single person story.

I haven't even started KH3 yet. I've watched a couple of playthroughs on Youtube so I know the story, but that's it. Last year I got KH: The Story So Far and was catching up on all the KH games for the other systems that I hadn't played yet. Or sitting through the cinematic movies.

It's next on my last after I finish up a couple of things on MLB The Show 16. (I'm a little behind.) They are shutting down the servers for that game next month.

Never heard of the other game.

I don't know if I do or not... I'm almost exclusively a single-player gamer. I've thought about getting a PSN+ account simply to have a backup of my games should something happen to my current PS4 (which did happen to my daughter) but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Not sure it's really worth the $ for me.

The only games I've really tried online are GTA5, RDR2 and Watchdogs. I checked it out a couple of times but never really did any missions or anything. I much prefer to just play with by myself.
Hearts are tough, she said, most times hearts don't break, and I'm sure that's right . . . but what about then? What about who we were then? What about hearts in Atlantis?

Not to start a whole console vs. PC thing, but games as art is definitely not exclusive to consoles. Sure, there is no PC version of The Last of Us or Horizon Zero Dawn or what have you, but there are plenty of these types of art-level games that are also on PC, or some are even PC exclusive (like the original Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodines, one of the best games ever made).

Of course not, but you're missing my point. Some of these experiences are only available on consoles. Naw mean?
