Mae, those are all very current games. I know you're a PC gamer but no NES, SNES, SEGA?!

Well, Thief is from 1998 or 1999. That’s probably the oldest. I could have included Wolfenstein 3D (my first PC game ever!), which I played endlessly in the very early 1990s. I did play some Sega Genesis (Batman Returns, Terminator 2, Sonic), but not much at all. And when I got my PC in the early ‘90s, I never got into the consoles. The first console I got was the PS3 about 10-15 years ago, mainly for GH. But I still played almost everything on the PC.

One honorable mention I should include is Splinter Cell. One of the few games I know inside out and have replayed many many times.

This is just off the top of my head. A few old school games that I remember playing and replaying for hours on end and a few newer games that I spent hours playing because they are ginormous and I'm too much of a completionist to stop playing them before I've finished everything in the game.

Many of them are part of a series that I really like but I just picked my favorite out of the series.

    Maniac Mansion (NES)
    Double Dragon 2 (NES)
    Super Mario Bros 3 (NES)
    Super Mario World (SNES)
    Burnout Revenge (PS2)
    Medal of Honor Frontline (PS2)
    NFL Blitz 2000 (PS1)
    Twisted Metal 2 (PS1)
    Read Dead Redemption (PS3)
    GTA San Andreas (PS2)
    GTA 4 (PS3)
    GTA 5 (PS3)
    Batman Arkham City (PS4)
    MLB the Show (whatever year)

NFL Blitz was the SHIT when I was growing up. Spent countless hours playing that. I love that it was always 1st & 30 because of how ridiculous those plays were lol.

Red Dead Redemption is a game that anyone can be proud to have in their top 10. I hardly ever use the word, but that game is a masterpiece.

My best friend and my brother-in-law and I would spend hours rotating who played against who on that game. We still talk about the day the other two played each other and went into triple overtime.

It's funny. I've done countless lists when it comes to movies. But I've never done one for my favorite games of all-time. I've actually never even given it much thought. It just seems daunting. How do you compare games from NES to PS4? I find it easier to compare films from different eras than video games.

I'll come through with my top games at some point.

I hooked up my Gamecube which hasn't been used in over a decade. Still works great. I ordered NHL 2004 and I've been having a blast playing it, even though it's been pretty hard to revert back to more basic controls and I'm not too well in my dynasty so far, but this is the hardest hockey game ever made...I just used to be so good at it lol.

I got in my replacement 360 console...it's matte black with a faux chrome disc tray and it's really nice look...way better than my beat up, white Arcade Model which I got to replace my Modern Warfare two console. I'd have gotten one of the last models without the disc tray (that's gone on me for two straight xboxes) but it would be a pain in the ass to transfer over 200 gig worth of stuff and I'd have to get a new USB stick to fit full games on it. But it has a slightly different power supply and the two I have didn't work, so I had to order a big ol brick power cord which cost me 45 bucks with shipping. Should be here Monday or Tuesday. Last year before my system bit the dust and I beat it to death until it just refused to read a disc, I stocked up on a bunch of games I haven't been able to play. And I can finally finish off 100%ing FF13-2 which killed my Xbox as it would only read for an hour or two at a time about once a week lol

Fuuuuuuuuck, I didn't list a Ratchet & Clank game in my top 10. Honestly though, I don't know which game I'd take out.

    HZD is really that good?

Also, surprised to not see any Super Mario games in your Top 10.

Well, the original Super Mario Bros. had a huge impact on me as a gamer. I was 7 when I get the NES for Christmas and played Super Mario Bros. endlessly. It's not a great game though. Then I remember playing Super Mario Bros. 2 a lot, but I actually got out of the NES by the time Super Mario Bros. 3 came out. I moved away from Nintendo entirely when I got a Sega Genesis. From there it was on to PlayStation, so I never really played any of the Mario games on the N64 and Gamecube until recently. So while it had a huge impact on my gaming career, there are other games that are just plain better.

As for Horizon, honestly, I really loved that game. I spent countless hours in that world just roaming around, and months after completing it, I'm still thinking about the time I spent in that world.

The one thing I learned while doing this is how many great games there truly are out there.

I can't believe I forgot about the Kingdom Hearts series. Spent many, many hours beating the first 2. Then they started expanding the story and releasing games on the portable systems which I don't play at all. So I'm completely lost with the storyline now. My girls have kept up with it though.

I'm still banging away at RE 7. I wasn't too thrilled with my first play through. I'm about halfway through Madhouse mode and it's a lot more enjoyable with the added goodies

I loved the KH series, and was clamoring for Part III for years, but now I think my interest has waned after xyz number of spin offs. When I saw the teaser for Pt. 3 a few months ago I was nowhere near as excited as I would have been a few years ago.

Just reminded me that I never completed RE7. I'll have to jump back into it after MGSV.

I didn't get to finish the original Kingdom Hearts because someone stole it. And then they released all other games on handhelds and shit, and I assumed I'd be missing tons of story, so I just said fuck it.

Now that I've got an Xbox again, I'm having a blast with New Vegas and finally playing these DLCs. I haven't decided how I'm going to do this playthrough...I apparently already pissed Mr. House off so that option is over. I kind of want to string along Caesar and the NCR and play both sides before destroying them both. I'm really enjoying this time in Utah now. I forgot how different this area feels. And those damn giant Cazadors.

This will be easier if I break it apart into systems, I think. I'll do more recent systems later. So hard to weigh a childhood classic like Blaster Master or Mega Man 2 against something like Fallout 3.

You can actually get most of the storylines on the PS3 or the PS4 with the 1.5, 2.5 and 2.8 releases. Some of the games are cut-scenes only instead actually being playable but at least allows you to catch up.

Man, that's what I should have done. I'd like to at least put together a favorite NES list at some point. My NES collection has grown considerably over the past 4 years.

Awesome to see Master Blaster at the top of your list. Great game. It's also cool to see Lolo on there. I feel like those games have been overlooked. I still need to buy the 3rd game. Have you ever played River City Ransom? That's a game I bought and played for the first time last year. It's amazing. I grew up playing beat em ups like Double Dragon and Renegade and River City Ransom puts them in the ground. It's two player co-op and features a pretty robust RPG element, especially for its time. You can boost stats by buying food or reading books. Really cool to see in an NES game.

Starting Dragon Age: Inquisition this weekend, having completed Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II over the last couple of months. Awesome stuff. Some of the best characters and story in any medium, I feel. The world feels real, on par with LOTR. So well done. But I'm also very much looking forward to diving into Divinity:

Started Wolfenstein II yesterday. A cool, mindless shoot 'em up!

I need to invest in both the Wolfensteins, if only because my favorite voice actor (Brian Bloom) is in both of them (BJ Blazkowicz).

Dude does have a cool voice. I guess it's not as mindless after all. All in how you approach it I guess. I prefer stealth and silent kills myself. Of course you can just barge right in and start shooting the place up. Plenty of ammo and armor to pick up from dead Nazis

I have heard some really good things about it...my buddy who has played it loves it. But I haven't played the original yet, so I gotta get that before I can progress to the second game.

It's something I have had my eyes on for awhile now!

So....do these forums have a Discord server set up for talking in real time/voice chat at all?

I figured I'd ask here, since Discord is kind of a gamer thing, and was wondering if anyone ever talked about or started up a dedicated DT.org server.

And for those who are unfamiliar, Discord is basically the coolest thing ever. It's a free service/program that lets you set up a server where you can chit chat and use voice communication. You can also break down a server into multi channels so you could have say....a DT nerd channel and DT sports channel in the same place. You can also see who is online and what games they are playing (if you're curious).

Cause I think that would be super fun to connect with you guys in new ways.

EDIT: You can also download Discord to your smart phone and send messages from there as well.
