assault rifles
small machine guns
light machine guns
shotguns
snipers
Starting with the first game. I consulted with a buddy of mine who has played all three, and despite the cumbersome combat in the first game, he assures me that if it's the story and characters that I'm interested in, I should definitely start at the beginning. So, awayyyyyy we go!!!!
He wasn't kidding.
You're right though, Kojima's style is not for everyone. I will say that Metal Gear Solid for the PS1 is a masterpiece. The series has never been about the story for me. It's about memorable characters and gameplay. I had a blast with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain until the end of the game. It was an absolute trainwreck because of what Konami did to Kojima.
In regards to Reedus, it doesn't matter what he does for the rest of his career. He's eternally a badass for The Boondock Saints.

I have the Phantom Pain on the PS4 because it was offered as a freebie for plus members. I'll eventually get around to playing it because i won't turn my nose up at free games!!
Holy God!
Platinum'd Bioshock Infinite (again) last night.
Are you sure it was Phantom Pain and not Ground Zeroes? I originally downloaded Ground Zeroes for free and I'm glad I did because it was a glorified demo. It's too bad some people paid money for that one. I didn't think they made Phantom Pain available for free download. That's a steal.
Congrats, man! That's an amazing feat.

So I finished Dragon Age: Origins over the weekend (the main game). Whoa! This is automatically in the Top 5 all-time best games for me. Pure art.
Finally started Metal Gear Solid V.
JC that prologue is fucking insane. I didn't expect it to be so violent.

Gaming gear from my son for Christmas!
You don't know my kind.....You don't my mind.....Dark necessities are part of my design.....
Very nice, Brian!!!
Thanks, Andi! Not much on war games but I've always loved the urban camo. Finished up RE 7 recently and I really wasn't that impressed. Deciding whether or not play through it again or move on to Wolfenstein II.

Dude.. this game is just, unbelievable. The freedom that you have to approach any given situation is exhilarating. You can sneak in and choke everyone out, or just decimate an enemy base with your helicopter.
Sad that this is Kojima's last MGS but glad he decided to take the sandbox-style approach. Fantastic game.
I think when all is said and done, MGSV might crack my personal top 10. Maybe. We'll see.
Also, I swore off Assassin's Creed games because Ubisoft has been toying with us and milking the shit out of that franchise, but gd I keep hearing good things about Origins. I'm sure I'll cave in at some point and buy it when it's on special.
I'll certainly look to get the complete edition of Assassin's Creed Origins when they deem to release it. I'd be curious to see your Top 10 list, by the way.
I'd be curious to see everyone's top ten list!!!
I think that would be a very difficult thing to put together though.
I'll start thinking about mine. I like lists
I shall also contemplate my list on the tree of woe...
Alright I'll give this a shot; my top 3 have been pretty firm for many, many years now
10. Bioshock Infinite (PS3)
9. Fallout 3 (PS3)
8. Devil May Cry 3 (PS2)
7.Grand Theft Auto III (PS2)
6. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
5. Resident Evil II (PS1)
4. Super Mario World (SNES)
3. Megaman 2 (NES)
2. Final Fantasy IX (PS1)
1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
Ummmm....This list may or may not be final. lol
Not an easy thing to put together. So many factors, and I think pure time played has got to be among them. It's amazing how much time I have spent killing mans on the internetz.
10. Fallout II (PC)
9. 007 Goldeneye (N64)
8. Guitar Hero (PS2)
7. Horizon Zero Dawn (PS4)
6. Gears of War II (Xbox 360)
5. Final Fantasy VII (PS)
4. Diablo II (PC)
3. Dragon Age: Origins (PC)
2. Mass Effect 2 (PC)
1. Baldur's Gate II (PC)
And I can think of a couple dozen more games I could put on this list.
This is really difficult since I don't know what to factor in exactly, so I just went for the most played slash most favorite. Order could vary greatly so that's pretty fluid. Also, these are all PC, since my gaming has always been 95% PC-based:
- Life Is Strange
- Dragon Age: Origins
- Deus Ex
- Thief
- Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
- Fallout 3
- Skyrim
- Dishonored
- The Walking Dead
- Assassin's Creed III
Andi, I love the Guitar Hero games (my PS3 gaming was mainly them back in the day when I had a PS3), and I had them all. I think I still have the silly guitar somewhere around. Ah those were the days....
I still dig out Rock Band and Guitar Hero Metallica for the xbox 360 and play on occasion. So much fun.
And I actually have a super sappy sentimental reason for loving Guitar Hero that all started with the old dt.net site of all things. That's a story for another day though, and a bit off to topic for this thread.
