Overall, I loved the game. The problem with the end is thatit's an old time-travel story trope. "You're not supposed to mess with time, you're not supposed to change anything." The game obviously means for you to choose to sacrifice Chloe. To which I say, bullshit. This is just an old genre convention that you must not change anything or else there will be dire consequences. This stems from the belief in fate. King does this too at the end of 11/22/63. I did not like the end of that novel because King fell into that trope as well, believing that a tragic ending is better than a happy ending. Sometimes, sure. But with these types of stories it seems to be the law. Throughout the game as Max I was falling in love with Chloe only to be presented with the fact I must essentially wipe out our week together and watch the person I love get killed again. Of course, I chose the other ending, and I would have preferred in 11/22/63 that Jake and Sadie stay in the past and live their life. I'm a sentimental and maybe naive person, but if the game says choices you make will have consequences and matter then what best way to live up to that by saying fuck you to fate (and the developers), destroying the town (no specific casualties shown so most people you knew very likely survived), and driving off into the sunrise with your beloved.
