Yes, I definitely am. The only one I recommend so far is the second novel of the Unholy Women trilogy. It's delightfully disgusting and nauseatingly grotesque.

    my 2010 list

    2011 list:

    Horror Movies:

Unholy Women (Kowai Onna, 2006): Rattle Rattle - 2+; Hagane 5-; The Inheritance 2
    The Watch (2008 ) 3-
    F (2010) 2+
    Besökarna 1

    Documentaries:

Polanski par Polanski (2006; in French)

I don't want to get into it with you again, so don't take this the wrong way, but do you like any movies?

Maybe you're just really a hard grader, but it's kind of funny that out of all the films you listed above the highest grade is a 7, which is pretty average. I don't know about everybody else here, but I only subject myself to films I think I will like.

I can understand the low grades for the A-Team & Schmucks, but I'm kind of surprised by the low (shockingly low) grades for The Town and The Other Guys. The Town is considered one of the better films of the year by many and The Other Guys was probably one of the better comedies of the year.

Again, I'm not trying to start anything. Just curious.
I guess that I am a hard grader, yes. Or you could say that; to me, it's more like most people are WAY too generous. Certainly, there are many films that I'd put in the 9-10 range, but I haven't seen any new ones in the last couple of weeks. (Didn't list rewatches.) You'll notice that I gave none of these a 1 or 2, either, but I do come across movies sometimes that belong there. 5.5 is exactly average on a 10-point scale, and I try not to go wild with praise since experience has taught me that what seems great one moment often pales in just a couple of years.

I defintiely considered The Other Guys an epic fail. Totally incoherent. Not the worst I've ever seen, and it had some funny moments, but it's nowhere near being the movie that it appears to have tried to be

As for The Town, I guess I've just seen too many heist films. I respect the work that was done, the performances were quality, IMO, but I just thought the whole thing was overly formulaic. Slightly. It had good themes, but not pertinent and original ones, so far as I could tell. I'll grant that I might bump this one up a point or so at some time.

BTW, I think that, conversely from The Other Guys example, The A-Team was actually remarkably successful at what it was trying to do. Suspend judgment and it's pretty enjoyable.
Too bad that, really, what it was trying to do was so worthless. Additionally, I found its pretentious morals particularly crass.

I'd have to say that I do rather dislike the movie industry taken as a whole, at least as it stands presently. I hope you can still appreciate my input, anyway. No harm meant.

Of course I appreciate your input. Even though we disagree on a few movies, I always respect everybody's opinions. If we all like the same movies, it would get pretty boring to talk about film. Some of my favorite movie discussions with family and friends are about films we disagree on.

I am also not very happy with the state of the film industry. We just have to hope that they can turn it around at some point.

well, I am not sure it is such a must, since it doesn't really hold a candle to The Innocents; but certainly beats the shit out of that other version we've discussed. Hagane, on the other hand, is definitely a must, although I am not sure I really recommend it.

Jean are you not going to rate your horror films this year? How will I know which ones to check out?

And Melike, what did you think of the Dead Like Me film?
I haven't watched the series which are rated highly on IMDB. So for me it was a nice movie to watch, but nothing more than that.

It took me a little bit to find, but I just found it on youtube I'll try to watch it later tonight. It's not necessary to watch Rattle, Rattle first is it?

I thought I did. You seem to think that a 6 is near the bottom. A very great ratio of the grades you give are 10s or near 10. (Though I don't mean to dis the classics you've been watching lately.) I think it was good, but there's really not much to it, is there? I believe I picked up everything in that film on my first viewing. Anyway, thumbs up to the acting.

oooo Moon, an under the radar favourite. You like it? Actors that can carry a movie, literally by themselves, makes me appreciate them so much more. This is what I felt Buried did for Ryan Reynolds and to a lesser extent, Tom Hanks for Cast Away.

I'll have to check out Buried, I don't know that one.

Yes, Moon was amazing. I literally sat there after it had finished going, "Wow. That was brilliant." To myself, but that's ok, no one saw me I totally agree, given that Sam Rockwell pretty much starred in it alone, the performance was flawless. I haven't been in the rate the movie thread because I think it's hard to say much about the film without giving anything away, but I'd definately give it a 10.

Moon, much like Buried, was limited release. All the movies I really want to see in theatres are limited release and it sucks. Twilight gets into like a bajillion screens yet original, quality movies like Moon and Buried get, well, buried in the box office department. I hate waiting an extra four months or so for the DVD
