I have to say, that if you can read a book in the language it was originally written in, you're better off. You can just never get a really accurate translation, no matter how hard you try.

Especially in the Dark Tower books, because you have all the variations on English vernacular and colloquialisms to deal with.

"People, especially children, aren't measured by their IQ. What's important about them is whether they're good or bad, and these children are bad." ~ Alan Bernard

"You needn't die happy when your day comes, but you must die satisfied, for you have lived your life from beginning to end and ka is always served." ~ Roland Deschain

I have no idea, I've never seen any of the spanish versions. I'm going to Mexico this january for about 2 weeks, I'm going to look for the DT books and buy them all so that I can compare and contrast.

Of course Daggers but that is true of an entire language, not just with a book translation. Futhermore, that is no reason not to read it in another language. It is impossible to translate one language to another and get the exact sentiment all of the time.

I am looking forward to reading the DT in Spanish and reading what the "translations" are.

And you can translate the Spanish DT books into English. Isn't it a good idea?

    Roland would have understood.

And after that I could translate your translation into Hungarian and from that into English again.
I think after awhile we would have new books.

(I am waiting for your perfect answer eagerly in who told who thread.)

Yes! The Gunslinger is El Pistolero in the Spanish version.

By the way, the GREAT quote:

"El hombre de negro huía a través del desierto, y el pistolero iba en pos de él".
(The man in black flew accross the....)

I think I'd prefer it this way.

Anyway, cool! I totally want El Pistolero and the rest of them in Spanish. That would be a cool experience.

A feketébe öltözött ember a sivatagon át menekült, a harcos pedig követte.

I wish I could say this. Perhaps you could teach me one day...

I can hear it in my first clip (I guess it's not easy ti grab it out from what I'm saying) but if you wish I can record that one sentence for you.

The title of first edition in the spanish version was "La hierba del diablo" very bad traslate "devi´s weed"

Now, the new re-editions (revised) the title is correct.

    "El Pistolero" = "The gunslinger"

    Ooh, I like this thread.

This reminds me, there's a wonderful new translation of War & Peace that's just been released. It's done by a Russo-American husband-wife team.

They really capture the essense of Tolstoy.

    "Drops dripped"

It's intriguing to see how my favorite epic tale reads in another language.

And why did they make such a big change in the title at the first time??
