Congrats on the new apt! I'm happy for you
Shuffle is a good way to approach that batch of music. If you have any questions about any of it feel free to fire away.
Chanson (and the rest of that album) is just such pretty playing. It's radically different than anything else he does. Frantz Casseus [the guy who wrote all the songs on that album) was a Haitian composer and Ribot's next door neighbor when he was a kid. He was Marc's first guitar teacher.

I do have one question: Towering Above the Rest - what is this album and why is it so long? Is it a compilation of rare stuff? And when was it released?

Towering Above the Rest was not an official release by the band, but a collection [which is actually still active and still growing] by the fan community which has been circulated on the internet. It's a compilation of b-sides, rarities, live performances of songs (particularly of songs performed before they were released on albums), and other assorted hard-to-find RH gems. This particular version dates to about 2001 or so. The thing is still growing, but a LARGE part of the current version is re-mixes. I'm not against re-mixing, but to me, it's not RH at that point, it's someone else's work and I don't need it with my RH compilation. The B-sides and rare stuff are what makes that collection what it is. Somewhere on there is a version of them doing Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy." I always get a kick out of that one.

That's very cool - and yeah, I heard Rhinestone Cowboy yesterday and was thrown for a loop.

The first time I played the collection that song came up and I was singing along before I actually realized what it was I was singing. Then I was like 'holy crap, what the hell are they playing?"
