Brass in Pocket, The Pretenders
White Diamonds - Gay Beast
Gay Beast are an amazing three piece noise rock/no wave band. Their EP, Disrobics, was fucking insane. Their debut LP, Second Wave, is even better. Keyboards, saxophone, guitar, drums, and yelped vocals. Imagine a cross between DNA, Theoretical Girls, and (weird as it sounds, it's true) ABBA.

...aaaaaaaaaaaaaand, we're back to the NP editorials i love.
Lemons by Ty Segall.
Lo-fi surf pop! Like Thee Oh Sees, but without John Dwyer's sarcasm. Or like Wavves, but good (I remember liking his stuff when he first came out. The Woodsist things were fine). If you like noisy, sunny, inherently SoCal music, find yourself some Ty Segall.

I was listening to In A Moon So Blue by Jandek, but now I am making my own music.

Take Warning - Operation Ivy
Big town's got its losers, small town's got its vices...
Recorded some modified violin (broke a string, so I retuned to an open chord that uses a 2nd as an interval) using an overloaded mic. I also recorded glockenspiel onto a cassette then dumped it into a digital medium. Yay for analog! Next up is distorted tenor sax. By the way, the song being recorded is called "Whole Jesus," and is a dissonant set of solos taken by violin and sax over a pop-hop vamp. I kind of took free jazz, Ayler, and MF Doom and then just mashed them all together.

Breath of Fire by Arrington de Dionyso.
Throat singing, jaw hard, and bass clarinet all combine to create enveloping yet stark compositions on his first solo disc. Highly recommended for fans of Huun-Huur Tu.

Heh.
I was at a used record store here in Omaha the other day and saw a bunch of Husker Du.
It made me think of sj and Jayson.
(And I don't know how to do the umlaut on a Mac. Sorry.)
