Mad Men
Firefly
Have not seen either, intend to watch both - will look closely at the outcome of this vote to see which one should be first
If you are going through hell - keep going
I can't believe these two are up against each other. I'll have to think about it for a bit.
Only the gentle are ever really strong.
I voted Mad Men because honestly Firefly is boring to me.

I feel Mad Men is an instant classic. Those opening titles alone are amazing.
Firefly, don't really get Madmen.

There's one hole in every revolution, large or small. And it's one word long.. people. No matter how big the idea they all stand under, people are small and weak and cheap and frightened. It's people that kill every revolution.
Both 2000s brackets thus far are so close. Is it just because they're fresher in people's minds than older series?
Not seen either. I've watched Serenity and I loved it, but I'm not voting unless I've seen the programmes in question
Hmmm Mad Men, a quality show overall with great acting and writing; or Firefly, a show that didn't last more than a season and is made by Joss Whedon...not much of a debate here.

Firefly didn't last more than a season because it was placed in the Friday night death slot by Fox and they aired the episodes all out of order, making the plot ridiculously hard to follow. In my opinion, Firefly was an amazing show that was turned into a complete hackjob by the network. When it is watched on DVD, as it was intended to be seen, it is wonderful. It is actually one of my favorite TV shows.

My God, Firefly is winning?! Whatttttttttt
I had my infatuations, but we both know in our hearts who is the sole love of my short, bright life.
It was actually pretty original, stylish, so I give it points for creativity... but I still vote Mad Men.
Yet Battlestar Galactica succeeded...for four seasons. I always hear that excuse 'friday night timeslot. X-Files also succeeded for almost ten years. If the show was good enough they would have another network or day (Everybody Loves Raymond, CSI) to air it. Plenty of shows started on friday but were then moved to other days. Fox is synonymous with this 'friday night death slot' because most of the shows on Fridays were pieces of shit like Dark Angel and Fastlane. I think if firefly was really that good of a show and it became such a cult hit after DVD, it would have come back not unlike shows like Family Guy and Futurama had due to DVD sales.
Firefly was probably a show people enjoy but certainly doesn't appeal to everyone. You can blame the timeslot all you want. Simple fact was it didn't appeal to enough people to succeed. This is further evidenced by the fact Serenity lost 15 million in the box office and only made 1/4 it's money back on opening weekend.

One thing I'd like to add that needs to be taken into consideration of why Battlestar did so well was that it was a remake of a once popular show. If it had been anything else, well, it could've gone either way, i think. But the fact that it was something of a recognisable name certainly would've drawn people. The fact that it was, admittedly, so bloody good, especially for a remake was what kept people watching, but if it had been something brand new, would people have been drawn to it as much?
All i know is...i really do need to get round to watching season 2!

Then people should blame fox and their idiotic management instead. They're the idiots that cancelled Family Guy and Futurama at height of popularity. Surprised Simpsons lasted this long in their hands haha

Both great shows, tough call.
"So many vows. They make you swear and swear. Defend the King, obey the King, obey your father, protect the innocent, defend the weak. But what if your father despises the King? What if the King massacres the innocent? It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or another."
