Remember, Remember, The Fifth of November, The Gunpowder, Treason, and Plot.
Finished Cronin's The Passage and am rereading David R. Palmer's Emergence. This is a neat read, but is becoming more and more dated. Technology moves on!

The World Turned Upside Down: The Global Battle Over God, Truth and Power, by Melanie Phillips
A re-read of Stephen Donaldsons "Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, The UnBeliever"
Across the Face of the World. Anyone read this?
"So many vows. They make you swear and swear. Defend the King, obey the King, obey your father, protect the innocent, defend the weak. But what if your father despises the King? What if the King massacres the innocent? It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or another."

Still reading Needful Things and I am almost at the end
Spoiler:and I feel my heart breaks. This book is killing me.
Roland would have understood.
Okay, I have finished it. I am still shocked...
but let's get a bit on topic.
I am planning to read The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. I guess many of you have read. What do you think about it?
Roland would have understood.
I was so-so on it.

Bears loved it.
Ask not what bears can do for you, but what you can do for bears. (razz)
When one is in agreement with bears one is always correct. (mae)
bears are back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm starting (again) to try Uncle Tom's Cabin. I'm a bit further into it, but the stilted dialogue and (what are now) cliche situations are still distracting to me.
By the way, Letti, I liked The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon a bit. It's far from my favorite, but it is an enjoyable read.

I’m about halfway through The Liar’s Lullaby by Meg Gardiner. A solid thriller. The protagonist performs psychological autopsies in cases of equivocal death–when there isn’t enough evidence to say whether a death is homicide, suicide or natural or accident. The victim in this case is a popular singer who dies during a spectacular entrance at a concert. She also happens to be the president's ex-wife, has a long history of bipolar illness. She also has a deranged stalker and is being used by a white supremacy group to further some members’ bizarre conspiracy theories.
