I suppose it is like that Supreme Court ruling on porn "I can't define it, but I know it when I see it", or something along those lines.

This is why I love people like you and the other people on this website. You guys can appreciate things like framing a shot. I can't tell you how many people in my life who would never even notice that. Even in the work I do, people don't notice the difference until you see the work of a professional as opposed to an amatuer. The most glaring difference is not the shaky camera or even the bad lighting, it's usually a poorly composed shot.
I'm too busy looking at the shots the first time I watch a movie that I miss a lot of acting nuances. That was my biggest gripe with Tarantino for the longest time, he just wasn't very good at constructing shots. Kill Bill showed more skill at it and Inglorious Basterds actually proved he's a good director, not just a good script writer. If you look at many photos I've taken that are on Facebook you'll see I care a lot about how I choose to present it, I'm concious of the framing, lighting, space, focus and considering most are cell phone pics, they turn out great. Though I have to give a lot of credit to nature with my nature/wildlife pics

Oh yeah he's great, but his visual style was all snatch and grab homages from everywhere. His recent films are still full of homages and winks and nods to film history but visually his earlier movies don't stand up. I still love them, they just aren't as complete.

Good catch Matt. One of the reasons you probably weren't that impressed with Tarantino's composition is that it was pretty uninspiring in most of his early films. In fact, I agree that things changed in Kill Bill. That film is packed with great visuals and perfectly framed shots. This trend has continued through Basterds and Django.

As much as I love QT, I think most of that praise has to go to the DP Robert Richardson who came aboard for Kill Bill and has done every Tarantino film since.

Richardson has done some amazing films and also works with Scorsese a lot (Hugo, The Aviator, Shutter Island and Casino). He also was DP on A Few Good Men (a personal favorite) and Platoon. Just to name a few. I'd love to give all the credit to QT, but Richardson is probably the main reason for such a drastic change.

Gah -- this season is so dumb. With all the problems in the world, why stay in the one place where there's a raging, lethal infectious disease?

Agreed, they should be packing up and leaving.

I have to say, now that most of the random newbies are gone I'm beginning to like this season a bit more. Sure its still filled with some silly scenarios (really not enjoying the flu storyline). But I'm hoping they leave the prison soon and then I think it might get better. They've been too comfortable there.

A group that big, where would they go? What guarantee would they have that wherever they relocated to wouldn't be riddled with disease as well?

The issue came up when they met the two people this week. Hey, come on back with us, but we have to warn you -- you might get Captain Trips if you do. We can offer you four walls and an epidemic. How's that sound?

I also think Rick's unilateral expulsion was dumb. She's been with them almost since the beginning. So, she made an executive decision that didn't have the desired outcome. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Rick's ideas haven't always been all that great, either.

If it weren't for Daryl and Michonne, I'd give this show the big old delete. They're all that's keeping me interested at this point.

I liked the decision to oust Carol. It wasn't that standalone incident, it's her almost sociopathic indifference to anyone except the original group that worried Rick. I like the idea of her being out there as a random story element, like the Guvnor. Although in his case, I would liked to have seen him get killed end of last season, but there you go.
I agree with Feev on the prison situation. Even though, as viewers, we have been given hints that the group may have been purposely infected, as a character in that situation you'd make the assumption that as flu is viral and people carry it, what's the point in moving when you could be taking carriers with you. Plus the prison is the most defendable position they've held so far.

I'm kinda glad he didn't get killed. As despicable as he is, I love watching it all play out. And I've been kinda "meh" about this season, so I'm waiting for him to show his sick self again so things can get really interesting. [rubs hands together]

What? You don't like the afternoon special storyline about alcohol abuse? I'm not really sure why he couldn't fit the medicine and a bottle of booze in the backpack. Seems like kind of a waste of space to me.

Also, Carol will pop back up again. Probably with the Gov. I think Rick is actually trying to save her knowing that Tyrese will probably just kill her if she hangs around the prison.

I have thought the last two episodes have been very weak. It makes me sad. This show used to be the first Sunday show I watched. Now it is usually the last, even when there is not that much on.
There's one hole in every revolution, large or small. And it's one word long.. people. No matter how big the idea they all stand under, people are small and weak and cheap and frightened. It's people that kill every revolution.

Ha! Totally - that was some pretty slack writing there.

Also, Carol will pop back up again. Probably with the Gov. I think Rick is actually trying to save her knowing that Tyrese will probably just kill her if she hangs around the prison.
Yeah, I'm thinking she'll run in to the Guv - possibly give him the old chestnut about "they kicked me out, I'll make them pay!" and then turn out to be a double agent who's still on our guys' side when the final confrontation happens...

...actually, lets hope not, that's just a rehashing of the Andrea storyline.

To be honest I'm not sure how to judge it. I watched all the other seasons in one go online, so I didn't feel like I was waiting for plots to get going etc, it seemed like a normal storyline build up. So, the way I'm watching it now, I feel like I need to give it time because this is possibly the same pace - just in real time as it were.

The only way Tyrese would find out who killed those two people is if Rick told him. He guessed based on the size of the handprint on the door, but Tyrese isn't likely to have that info.
