This is my first one. I think I was expecting a little bit more to be happening at this point.

Great show. I've been reading the books for a while and the show is one of the most true to book adaptations I have seen.

Does anyone watch Succession? I don't know anyone who watches it, yet it's one of those shows that seems to keep winning shit. I'm not kidding when I tell you that I fell asleep during a promo for the show once. I might just have been tired, it just didn't grab me.

I hadn't heard of it until my aunt mentioned it at Christmas. She raved about it, but all the bits and clips I've seen at these award shows make it look stuffy and boring. I could be totally wrong, though, but it just doesn't scream, "WATCH ME NOW!"

Watched "The Circle". We watched some stupid (give me that hour and 45 minutes back!) movie and before I could find the remote Netflix started playing this show. Didn't want to like it but did!

I think Wags from Billions might be my favorite character from any form of fiction; the guy is just a hoot (the look on his face alone is usually worth the price of admission, and then when he talks...).

My taste won't necessarily correlate with anyone else's, but FWIW I can't recommend Succession highly enough - alongside Billions, it is one of the very best things on TV now. It is anything but dull, with family and business fault lines carving up the surface of a massive media conglomerate and reaching into the world of politics etc. Great writing; great acting. Characters include bitter, impatient patriarch Logan Roy (played by Brian Cox, who is always good), Roman Roy (the perverted son who is either insane or brilliant, or a bit of both), Shiv Roy (the daughter who actually has her act together, which means she's no saint), and Kendall Roy (the son who appears to have his act together, but does he?).

I will say that after watching the first episode, I was pretty confused about what was going on - not that it wasn't good, or didn't make sense, but if, at that point, you think it's about to veer into farce, it doesn't (it's drama).

I recently got on the Bojack Horseman hype train. I was under the impression that it would be all crass and potty humor, but the show is surprisingly deep. Really enjoying it.

What strikes me is they seem to go out of their way to disguise the era it is set in. The cars all seem to be mid 80's - early 90's but in good shape. The furniture in the homes and the decor is 70's to 80's. There is no real discussion among the teens characters of things internet related yet, they had a single, brief scene with a smart phone in it.
What did you make of that?

Definitely intentional and felt very early '90s for sure, yet it was ostensibly present day. Interesting dynamic.

Yes. I was impressed at the...technique. If you think about it; it isn't easy to set a show/movie in the present day and NOT have some reference, even casual, to texting or social media or the net in general. It worked well and I am hoping for season 2.

Anyone watching Dispatches from Elsewhere? I think it's one of my new favorite shows (only two episodes out so far). I didn't know it was based off a documentary (The Institute) about the real-life "game" before I watched so I watched that as well. I'm surprised I hadn't heard about it before. It's pretty crazy stuff (in a good, interesting way).

Just finished Nexflix's Messiah. Good intrigue, a bit of "cloak & Dagger" and with a couple of exceptions, well acted.

I just posted about it in the general TV thread.

Does this count? The Bolshoi Theater is streaming free performances on YouTube. Sleeping Beauty is live now and Swan Lake was yesterday and can be replayed. More shows are upcoming: https://www.youtube.com/user/bolshoi
