Way back in 1982 I had just started collecting Stephen King books. I think I had picked up used first editions of FIRESTARTER, THE DEAD ZONE and CUJO. I had never bought a new King first edition before.

I was in a store called Golden Age Collectibles in Pike Place Market in Seattle. I had mentioned to one of the guys behind the counter that I liked Stephen King. He said "Wait right here" and went into the back of the store. He returned with a shrinkwrapped copy of THE GUNSLINGER and said it was the last one he had. I had never heard of it before and was sort of surprised at the price. $20 was really an expensive book in 1982. At least I thought it was. I bought it and when I got to the car I began having second thoughts. I was in the Army at the time and our daughter had just been born. Money was somewhat tight and I didn't think I should be spending that much on one book. I almost took it back into the store to ask to return it. For whatever reason I didn't and I still consider it to be my best deal.

I forgot about that one. When The Dark Tower had just been released, and I was downtown Vancouver (B.C.), the Comic Shop, and there it was...a small stack of the trade editions, about 3 or 4 copies. Twent dollars wàs a lot of money those days...I hemmed and hawed a bit...hemmed and hawed some more, but finally bought a copy....only one....should have bought them all....

A guy just contacted me looking to authenticate a signature. He purchased a 1978 hardcover version of The Stand signed by King at a yard sale in Biddeford Maine for $1!

Signature is completely authentic...short inscription and dated 2/1/80. Not a first edition (T45 in gutter). Book is VG and DJ is Fair only, but for a $1 and a real King sig...that's an AWESOME deal.

Ok, this DEFINITELY qualifies as a steal! I took a chance on this eBay auction...title just said Different Seasons, but fine print and description said signed but there was no picture. Saw this with about 4 hours left in the auction and took a chance and bid on it as I had a gut feel that a pertson from Maine was not likely running a scam here.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

So for $49 I got a 1st edition Different Seasons, inscribed by King in the year of publication. The book itself is Fine with bright lettering on the spine. No bumps, bruises and the page block is very nice indeed. The DJ is probably VG+ but can be easily replaced. You'll see this one at Betts later on!

    $49, I still can't believe it.

Went to a "carboot sales" dedicated to old books.
Some binding were AMAZING. I took some pictures.
It is a shame that no such bindings are done nowadays. Some limited editions would be really nice.

Anyway, i got a french JAS for 10€ (half of the selling price). I only had the proof so got it.

And grabbed a FRANKENSTEIn (illustrated by Wrightson, introdued by King), 1st edition. Not in perfect condition, but quite good. 3€ ! A steal!

I was looking for a reading copy of Salem's Lot a few months back. I saw an auction for a fine condition book with no dust jacket. Price was 3 EUR including shipping.

When I got the package in the mail, it was surprisingly large. I was thinking the seller is little crazy to use so much wrapping material for the book.

When I oped the package I was like , since inside was the Centipede Press edition of the book.

    That's a great surprise kkemikk.

I've had plenty of awesome deals on King books over the years. Too many to mention.

Today I received the Collector's Edition of Under the Dome with a Cemetery Dance slipcase purchased off ebay for £30 ($46).

If I had bought them seperately from the US, the shipping costs alone to the UK would have been more than that.
