I watched this recently also. I wasn't expecting much, just a mindless shark movie, and that's what it is. It's not great by any means. The dialogue was awful, the CGI sharks weren't great, the whole plot of the movie was a little silly.

My favorite line in the whole movie was right before they go cave diving and one of the girls goes, "Guys, cave diving is dangerous!" And that's why they deserve to get eaten.

Absolutely, but be warned - it is probably the most violent film you'll see this side of Ichi The Killer.
Feev, will I like it? It's been on my list forever, but now I'm a little worried since you mentioned Ichi the Killer.

I still have The Nightingale on my mind. They are both brutal revenge films. If highly violent scenes aren't your thing, I would pass. This violence is especially perpetuated against women, so it's really hard to watch, but it's a great film.

@Heater it's a fantastic film with some tantalizing cat-and-mouse trappings, but yes it's extremely violent. The killer in the film targets women so if that's hard for you to watch, you might reconsider.

Agreed. Every single film he's made is at least very good. Check out the rest of his stuff. His earlier movies like Incendies are no less engaging than the later well-known stuff like Arrival or Sicario. For example, Polytechnique is extremely tense, it's about a real-life school shooting in Canada, filmed in stark black and white. It's streaming on Prime. Unfortunately, it wasn't seconded during our 2000s tournament but I nominated it And I also nominated his debut feature August 32nd on Earth during our 1990s tournament, that one is a smaller film, but you can already see his unique vision. That one, sadly, doesn't seem to be streaming anywhere now.

I felt the real stand out was the unknown kid that played the framed drug dealer. He was awesome! And Josh was good to... I always liked him. And Lucky number Slevin I loved where he was great in.

I rewatched Spotlight last night- only saw it in theaters - just to refresh my memory and get a better feel for how far it needs to go in the tournament. My assessment: pretty fucking far.

A powerful, important film about failed systems and the dangers of perpetuating secrets. If you haven't seen it, you need to. It's on Netflix.

Spotlight is that rare, timeless film. It's super timely, really mainstream and really good. That is a combination of 3 things that are hard to find sometimes.

Not that it's new to me, but lately I've been seeing bits of The Wedding Singer on a regular basis (thank you, Freeform channel!).

Something curious that I've noticed the last two times I watched it: when Glenn asks Julia (Drew Barrymore) to order him a Heineken the next time she has a chance, Freeform blanks out the word "Heineken." Why? Is beer a big deal these days? Seems odd.

Here's the original clip (unchanged, except for the addition of something else at the end for humor purposes):
Eastasia has always taught college students to feel pride or shame according to their race.
