Due to the format, the story suffers badly. If novelized, it could be a four star tale. King does so much better in the confines of a novel than with screenplays.

Yeah, too bad he never went ahead with his threat to novelize his own screenplay.

Never read. Picked it up and flipped through it. I was utterly turned off by the screenplay format.

    *odious noise rises in background*

Maybe one of these days. This is one of the rare occasions where I saw the movie, and do not feel compelled at all to read the book. (screenplay)

The format of this one really hurt it for me. It's a 3.

This raises an interesting question: Why isn't The Journals of Eleanor Druse (2004) in this? Might have been a better one to even things out with than Secret Windows.

Interesting. Who wrote it? (Sorry if it's off-topic. You could maybe just send me a link if that's been discussed elsewhere. I'd like to learn all about the project; I enjoyed it.)

Oh I would love to see that!

I guess I have to vote never read, although I loved the mini-series.
For those that have read it, does it differ much from what was filmed?

not really. I always thought Linoge was either a low-man (sort of a Leland Gaunt character) or Flagg, but i was never really sure. He claims to be the Legion from the bible. That was the only reason i read the book, to see if i could gather more information about him

Really disliked the TV movie, and the screenplay wasn't any better, sad to say.

I found the mini-series a 3 and was never compelled to read it either.
It'll take a lot more than words and guns,
A whole lot more than riches and muscle.

    I gave it a 4, I really enjoyed it.

I don't have any problem with the screenplay format, a few of my favourite books are screenplays (Kiss Of The Spiderwoman, The Singing Detective) I find it quite an interesting take on my usual reading experience. I like that, with a screenplay, your book actually is playing out like a movie in your head - which is an analogy I often use with the kids when I'm encouraging them to read more.

I once sat down to watch the film, while reading along with the book, it was too strange .
I didnt have a problem with the format either per se' and think it is a good story.
still, I voted average as it is. meh* I don't know...

    So, did it help?
Or were you only saying that watching first helped you to appreciate the book?

watching helped me appreciate the book a lot more. i dont think i would've even picked it up if i hadn't of watched the series. screen-play type novels aren't my cup o' tea
