I got hosed in the past by "being a nice guy" and getting strung along by a seller till the filing deadline passed. Ebay bounced the seller for being a turd but I did not get my money back because...

Sound like a pretty sketchy character.... Still i would protect my rights under ebays buyer protection and open a dispute wjhich puts everyone on notice within the filing deadline.
