I've always loved this line for it's simplicity on the surface, but the implications it had underneath.
Does anyone else kind of get mad at Roland in this part of the book for how most of his...
I agree with Lettie that the horn itself is insignificant, but the way Roland must have changed for him to have picked it up makes a huge difference.
If picking up the horn could be considered...
OK so I just got to thinking...
You know how Susan was pregnant and all when she was burned at the stake?
Could Mordred possibly be part of that baby she was carrying?
I was just thinking...
The way I look at it, The Gunslinger is the beginning as SK intended the reader to percieve it.
Very nice point
Do you think it's possible that on one level, Roland actually reached the tower and the room on the top?
After he got there he realized all the mistakes he made along the way and the people he...
Technically you could say the reader doesn't join him at the beginning of his loop.
The other title for the gunslinger is "Resumption", possibly meaning the reader is simply resuming Rolands tale...
So okey dokey, here's my tought...
Roland was on his way to save the tower, correct?

"...then touched the horn that rode on his belt behind the gun on his right hip. The ancient brass horn had once been blown by Arthur...
Is it possible the loop didn't start back over in the desert, but at the beginning of the gunslingers life?
Perhaps King just put the desert scene in there to make the point that yes, he still is on...
Best post ever!!
Gieco would be owned by Oy
With how old Clint Eastwood is, I think he would be better suited as Father Callahan.
That way he's at least in the movies, but we find someone younger for Roland.
I could picture Jason Lee as Eddie...
Roland is just to awesome to think of an actor for.
I'll re-post if I think of anything.
Roland gets to the tower, and just as he does someone pops out and says,
"The bad news is, this was all a dream. But I saved a bunch of money on my car insurance!"
