Sounds like a printing/binding error. It certainly doesn't make it desirable to me. It also doesn't supplant a true first edition.

There are no digital copies of the 1978 edition of The Stand. They didn't use digital copies back then. Someone would need to scan the entire book.

The term "printing" isn't the same as the term printed. They are using the term printing for the release date. They were obviously printed prior to that date.
I bought one of them and decided not to invest in the rest. If you are a completist or just happen to like them then there is nothing wrong with them. There isn't anything very special about them...
