I'm int he minority when it comes to that set of books, but I wanted to point out that I dislike religious and atheist works alike
I *Hated* His Dark Materials. It had some interesting ideas, but for me was flat out boring
The Narnia books were trying to tell the bible stories with different characters, while ASOIAF has its own religious aspects but its made up with its own mythology.

I know its quite a difference series, but I love the Sookie Stackhouse novels and the only thing worse than having to wait is getting a new book in a year and its only 1/3 of the way done
I got lucky with The Dark Tower series as well, unlike my poor husband who read them all as they came out (probably not the first one though!)
