This is one of my big takeaways to remember for next year's contest: the more grounded stories usually win the SFX categories.
It's funny everyone's mentioning the Bradley Cooper/Lady Gaga thing and while they do have great (some say too great) chemistry together, the first thing I thought during the performance was that...
Yeah, I'm fine with never having a host again, too. No host means the focus is on everyone rather than one person. And you're right. It didn't feel 3+ hours, unlike previous years.
Agreed 100%. Then there were some who had papers but STILL were rambling and unprepared (I mean, Public Speaking 101: practice and time your speech so you know how long it'll take...
Congratulations, Mike! I counted my score as 12, but I'll check again later.
I usually get tripped up by the sound categories, but the screenplay ones threw me this year, too. It seemed like many...
Here's my picks. Went to the Best Picture Showcase yesterday, so now I am better informed. I think Roma for BP is the best bet, but I have a feeling we might get a surprise there. Good luck,...
Yeah, not really excited about the show like past years, but I'll still watch it. Haven't seen any of the nominated movies yet, though.
Oscars will use Hollywood outsiders to introduce best picture nominees
Oh, good. Because if we're tuning in to a 3+ hour show about movies, we are definitely hoping to see as many celebrities...
Except they came up with those ideas in the first place, so I'm not exactly giving them bonus points here.
The decision has been reversed!

I'm happy to see it, but it only solidifies that the Academy literally has no idea what it's...
After all the poor decisions of the Academy this year in relation to the broadcast, I'm sad to say I'm not really looking forward to it this year. And most of the nominated films aren't getting me...
Matt, you're right (and I was thinking the same thing): the acting categories will never be in that rotation.
Heather, I'd vote for an earlier start time, too. And definitely on a Saturday night...
Yeah, I mean, it's nice that the four categories are going to rotate every year, but it's almost like saying, "You don't matter THIS year...but you will next year!"
The Academy is really suffering...
Did you guys see that four of the categories will be done during commercial breaks?
Agree with all of this. Blank Panther is this year's Get Out.
And I like how your bitterness is still intact.
I agree. Just watched the nominations tonight and I'm underwhelmed as well. Some of them were a lock for weeks, but the subject matter of most of them just don't excite me, like Heather said. Compare...
I'm happy with that. The Oscars don't need a host, and having one is only used to draw in some casual viewers who might be curious about their favorite A-list star spearheading the night. The SAG...
Speaking of the Golden Globes, I loved how Christian Bale thanked Satan in his acceptance speech.
Same here, Heather. I had 11 days off for Christmas break and wanted to go to the...
Hopefully. I'm waiting for all the people to come out and complain about everything being too PC. No. You made insensitive and inappropriate comments for the world to see, and now you live with the...
So...Kevin Hart is out already. What in the world? When are people going to realize that anything you type online can come back to haunt you?
