Thanks for that well-thought breakdown above, HBJ. Good to hear as I was on the fence on even getting it. I definitely will now. Not related, but since I'm here- I did just order the Deluxe...
I think this is how the "Great Tales" ones (The Children of Turin, Beren and Luthien, and The Fall of Gondolin) were recently (relatively) put together: with the aim of making the closest thing...
As much a fan I am of the Alan Lee illustrated 3 volume LOTR sets- this was an instant HARD pass for me at $1500. Half that price would give me pause. I guess Folio will keep ramping up their prices...
My Deluxe is fine, no problems that I can see. Very glad, also, that you all seem to be getting good copies. Maybe that does mean that these problems are not widespread. I really like this edition....
Oh Boy. So, the Tolkien collector's on a facebook group are reporting wide spread severe issues with many of the Deluxe copies making their way out there. I'm still trying to gather what those issues...
Nice find! That is interesting. Wonder what "Well North of 6000 copies means"? Also, there's now a non-limited Deluxe edition? That is still the Red leather one? For half price? I'm still...

Has anyone verified that their deluxe LOTR is a first printing? There was some reviewer on Amazon (UK) saying that they've already done another printing?...
Ooooh, glad to hear you got it, and in good shape! That means mine's imminent. Looks like a good edition.
Well-spotted, St. Troy. I don't think I'll be purchasing this "lesser" deluxe edition. The white and red just isn't doing it for me. On the other hand, the UK Deluxe black stamped cloth and red...

A bit out of my price range,...
Nice. Glad to hear they did a good job with the trade edition. I have the "deluxe", but also want a trade. Where did you buy it from? I've had a lot of bad luck getting HC editions over to me in the...
Glad to hear you're ok.
Thanks, HBJ- that video was VERY helpful. That "new" LOTR/Hobbit set is a much smaller set than the 2003 (?I think) set that I'm so fond of. These are similar in size to the newer HC books- the...
Pretty excited about this one. Unlike a lot of the other Deluxe Tolkien editions in recent years, as far as I'm concerned- this is mandatory Ring Canon. So much good stuff in this tome. And it looks...
Congrats! I'm still looking for a Harper Collins 1st deluxe of Children of Hurin- in case anyone sees one out there somewhere.. That one is tough to find mint: nobody wants to open the shrinkwrap to...
Excellent. Thank you!
Here's another curious thing (well, 2, actually..):
1- I don't think that there actually ARE US HM deluxe editions for all of these books.. Can anyone find the last few deluxe titles that are...
