"You didn't have to finish it! No one forced you to! King warned you!" is commonly trumpeted around by a lot of the supporters.
And if someone doesn't like a book, they don't have to reread it....
Whenever I reread the series I try to read the whole thing, but there were people on DT.net who would just reread the first four because they hated the last three.
This column was pretty recent, when the last Harry Potter book came out. I don't doubt a lot of people have changed their minds, but I'd be willing to wager its still a controversial issue.

Why should someone reread an 800 page book if they didn't like it the first time around?
*shrugs* I seem to recall a lot of people hating it on DT.net when the book first came out. The people who despised the ending probably wouldn't be posting on messageboards four years after the book...
I'm not implying that most hate it. But its also wrong in saying that most love it. It was arguably one of the most controversial parts of the book, and a lot of people didn't like it.
Is it possible to write an ending that pleases everyone? No. That's a silly question. There will always be a handful of people who don't like it no matter what they do.
