Could you tell me when the remarques were done? At the time of publication or at a later date?
Thanks for posting the picture of this treasure!

Thank you Kris, much obliged.
Perhaps David would let us know.

And then we have this. An incredibly rare original piece, Originals by Garland are rarely found for sale.
An original oil on board from Roger Garland, Tolkien illustrator. “The Watchers” from the Lord of the Rings.
This is an oil which Alec does not think was actually used in the book, however it was one Roger put forward for inclusion. Have any of our Tolkien collectors seen this before?

Again, you impress my friend:)
Thank you Simon and for the inclusion of Lakeside Gallery.
The recently framed Garland oil painting is extremely exciting, bolstered by all your generous comments.
I was interested to know if anyone had come across the painting during their excursions into the world of Tolkien. I would be delighted to hear if you have.
The books were signed near the end of his life, however the signature and handwriting never cease to amaze me.
Many thanks for the comments and interest.
Amazing!
Beautiful!
SUPERSUPERSUPERAMAZING !!!
What a remarkable piece. Worthy of any great art museum.
Many thanks for so many kind responses.
Not so much King at present, more towards Tolkien.
I have a few more Tolkien items arriving shortly, which will be posted as soon as they are with me.
Wow! Incredible... just incredible...
Amazing stuff. As you say his hand writing is beautiful!
Apologies to Alec, I haven't had chance to post this till now and it's something very special...
This is a proof copy of the original Lord of the Rings, Vol 1 - The Fellowship of the Ring.
Brown boards covered in brown paper, which unusually appears damp on all known copies, only about five!! (Around 20 only were produced at best guess apparently).
1953 as opposed to 1954 when the 1st Edition was published.
