I could definitely see Jackman as Roland..
IDK, he's already wolverine. I had never hear of Anson Mount before looking into the movie rumors but he does have the look. I'd like someone like that though. Someone with less past baggage. Someone that can make the roll iconically his. And he must have blue eyes!
The only known actor I could see doing a good Roland would be Josh Brolin.
I can see a number of the suggestion playing Roland. I know this is may be a reach but has anyone thought about Joaquin Phoenix? I can point out a number of negatives with him but he can bring some dark and troubled aspects to a character that on occasion has filled the screen. The massive and immediate negative to me is his soft-spoken nature and stature.
Timothy Olyphant would be my pick.
Joaquin Phoenix... BIG TIME. After Justified... no dice for Olyphant. I just cant see it.... sorry:(
Hmm, I can maybe see Brolin. A little thick but he could always lose some weight. I have a very hard time seeing Phoenix. Is it weird that now that he has some real drama under his belt I can almost see Matthew Mcconaughey pulling it off?
YES!!! He is the definition of "Long, Tall and Ugly" (well, maybe not "ugly", but then that's what makeup is for) these days in western type shows/films. See, "Justified" and "Deadwood" to name a couple.

You know what? After watching Dallas Buyers Club, True Detective, and Wolf on Wall Street... Matthew M would probably be my pick. I think he would kill it. He would go into that character like Heath Ledger as the Joker. So that is my vote for sure.... I think once a movie comes out and if it is done really well... a whole new generation will get to experience the Dark Tower and all its glory.
As Roland, Jim Caviezel would work.
Christian Bale as Roland.
RF I could def. see Bale doing it as well... there are a great many possibilites. Let's keep our fingers crossed they don't mess this up.
At least we know for sure Bale can do a gravel voice. :)
Lol
While out promoting his directorial debut, Winter’s Tale, Collider got the chance to talk to Goldsman about the status of the Dark Tower project. When we asked him if the film really is finally moving forward, he explained: “It’s not officially back on and we will never let it go – until Stephen takes it away from us. [Laughs]”
Considering the project isn’t officially back on, you’ve got to wonder, how much weight does that meeting between Paul and Howard really have right now? When asked if the filmmakers are currently making casting decisions, Goldsman gave us a firm no, but laughed and noted: “No, but I love reading about it!”

Anyone think David Morrissey would make a good Roland?

I hear that, I always pictured Clint Eastwood or Viggo Mortinson.
Hello Everyone I am new here (Yeah Me). Must say I am really excited / nervous as hell over the whole DT movie thing, as I am sure many are. I just hope they pick the right actors for the right roles I feel this will make or break the whole movie. Josh Brolin has a good look for the role with some high quality cg to cover up those brown eyes. Timothy Olyphant he has a pretty good look as well, Matthew Mcconaughey has tall dark and ugly written all over him. Bale I think is a really good actor and would get the role and voice right but the look is a little off. We just need an in his prime looking Clint Eastwood with his current acting skills ;)
I just hope for a series without major cuts.
With blood and curses!
And a little boy playing Jake ( like The Walking Dead Carl and not like Bran from GoT).
I can dream about Oprah as Odetta's mom, right?
Maybe Sean Bean as Roland ( he will not die lol)
Cuthbert - Ezra Miller, please
I'd so much rather see a tv series than a movie. Showtime or FX could pick it up, and really give it the amount of time to include the necessary detail. Each book could be a season. 10 episodes at 45 minutes long? 450 minutes total per book for screen time as opposed to at maximum a single movie at roughly 150 minutes.
Or HBO could do.
HBO would love to make Mia, Eddie and Roland naked.. or Jake smoking...
