I am reading Under the Dome, and just learned that the bank in town is called "Keyhole Bank". I wonder if that was intentional.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you may never hear back at all. I made it to the hiring manager on every single application that I submitted for almost a year ... and not once did I ever hear anything after that other than "not chosen", without further explanation, an interview, anything. Ever. So despite being immensely qualified, and even overqualified, it was a complete waste of my time. You have to realize that, legally, the positions must be advertised ... but regardless of number of applications, they will always fill with internal applicants first, or those who know somebody who knows somebody. There are hundreds of applicants for each position on USAJobs; unless you know someone, you are fighting an uphill battle. I had much more luck at local job fairs and visiting businesses personally; once I started doing that, I landed a position within about 6 weeks.Quote:

I agree, thats why I only put a little hope in the ones that has "many vacancies" listed in the # of jobs. Only this year have I gotten a semi-positive response from USAJOBS, the previous years, not much at all. I may try some local job fairs again. I went to one last year and it was a cluster fuck.
Yeah, they can be that ... but the jobs are there, just a matter of talking to the right person with the right resume. Still, USA Jobs is the devil.
Pope hanging it up?
Yeah, I had to laugh at that one. My grandma worked an industrial press at a laundry full time until she was 83, only stopped when the place burned down. She still gets up at 5 every morning to exercise and lives on her own ... she'll be 97 in April. He quit "due to advanced age" my ass; hopefully the church will release the truth, but I doubt it ... not for another 25 years or something anyway.Quote:

That's an amazing story about your grams. Yeah, I too think it stinks of conspiracy.
$$$ just rolled in :)
My nine-year-old son Erick is in need of an astronaut or an astronomer for a 10-15-minute telephone interview. He's chosen the solar system as the subject of his third grade Talented & Gifted class project, one requirement of which is that they interview someone who works in the field of the subject they chose.
If anyone knows an astronaut or astronomer who would be willing to participate, please drop me a PM!
Thanks - George
How about an astronomy professor? I could send you one of our astronomy professor's e-mail address (from my school) and you may be able to set something up.
I'm sure we're not going to be discussing planck lengths or string theory ... though with my kid anything is a possibility. He'll probably be asking basic solar system questions; he'd love an astronaut too talk to (what kid wouldn't!) but an astronomer is a better bet. Anyone know Neil deGrasse Tyson? Or Bill Nye the Science Guy? That would be awesome!
(When i was a kid, i was deep into astronomy. I had a subscription to astronomy mags, i was a library rat and was copying informations from other magazines issues.... and i sent letters to several spationauts, and i was getting signed photographs :) Unfortunately i dont think that i can help your son, but good luck for him. Maybe there is an astronomy club in your city? )

It's almost unheard of these days for a company to do any relocation packages so I am impressed you got one, congrats on that.
Congratulations, nameless! It sounds fantastic (except for the moving part).

So Stephen King's french publisher started about 2 weeks ago, a contest regarding the upcoming release of 11.22.63, with a facebook contest by offering 30 proofs of the book.
They launched a brand new facebook page for it, and while the contest ends in about 13h i guess, they are now approaching 15,000 fans. My french page have only 3,300... but they said that they'll mention my page after the contest :)
