Best Films of the 80s? What's everyone's obvious choice for number 1?
I think we should do a tournament of the best tournaments in DT.org history. Pablo's head will explode.
I could go with any of these and also maybe a Most Disturbing film category as well.
Spoiler: 02-24-2017 09:08 PMTommy 02-26-2017 01:51 AMTommyHave you done a best opening sequence/title segment for TV or movie yet? 02-26-2017 02:02 AMneedfulthingsSpoiler: 02-26-2017 06:49 AMmaeThat could be another interesting one, too. All past tournaments are now archived in the Past Tournaments sub-forum, so it's very easy to see what we've held in the past. I don't think I missed any. 02-26-2017 06:47 PMMerlin1958FWIW, I vote "Best scenes from Oscar winning films".
Spoiler: 02-27-2017 08:51 AMfernanditoBest Scene still gets my vote. 02-27-2017 09:08 AMwebstar1000 02-27-2017 05:55 PMStill Servant 02-27-2017 06:04 PMladysai 02-27-2017 06:14 PMStill ServantHave we decided on a nomination process yet? 02-27-2017 06:22 PMHeather19I would vote for a best scenes tournament as well.
Just some thoughts but maybe we should let people continue to second and third, etc, maybe cap it at like 5 or something. And the highest ones move on to the competition. It'd be a good way to weed out ones people don't like. Or would that make the end results too predictable, because we wouldn't want that. Another thing we could do is cap nominations from 1 member at a set amount, that way more members would have a chance to participate.
I love 80s movies! I'll have to think about what I would pick as my number one though, there's too many to choose from. 02-28-2017 09:04 AMSai ShebI'd go for best scene, with the scene on the steps of the Opera House in Godfather III my vote.... 02-28-2017 09:19 AMmaeI support a Best Movie Scene tournament. It will be interesting for sure, and different. 02-28-2017 09:44 AMfernanditoNah we don't have a tournament, I already found the winner
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKygjUmjMw4 02-28-2017 09:56 AMmaeBlasphemy, we always need a tournament! 02-28-2017 01:50 PMMattrickNominations will begin March 3rd.
The cap for nominations per member will be 13. When you nominate a film, place the number of nomination is it for you.
Nominations will need to be seconded/thirded to be included...if not enough films get thirded, seconds will be entered in order they were seconded. The cap for seconding/third per member is 19. When you second/third a film, place the number of second/third it is for you.
The cap for nominated scenes for a film is 2/4 per franchise. This is to ensure we have a variety of films and we don't have a few dozen films account for half of the slots. Some movies have a dozen scenes which deserve entry alone, but if we did it that way, we'd need 600 entries and EFF THAT. If two scenes from a film have already been nominated, but not seconded/thirded, you can nominate. But once two scenes have been seconded and thirded, the other nominations are redacted. 4 is the limit per franchise because some franchises, like Star Wars, with 8 films, even at 2 per films, could account for more than 10% of the entries, or James Bond could theoretically take up 40+ entries. While this may seem constrictive, it is supposed to. This will, hopefully, force people to be more critical when nominating.
Once you make a nomination you MUST wait for 5 nominations before you can nominate again. The same goes for seconds/thirds. This will help ensure everyone gets equal opportunity for their contributions.
IF we get down near the end, and nominations are at a standstill because everyone has used up their noms/seconds, everyone will be granted 2 additional nominations, and 3 seconds to finish it off.
I haven't worked out how many nominations there will actually be yet. I'll have to do some math and figure it out. 02-28-2017 02:22 PMT-Dogz_AK47Fuckin' ridiculous. :nope:
Tournaments are not supposed to be constrictive - they are supposed to be fun. I doubt anyone here will enjoy being "forced" to be more critical when nominating. thumbsdownsmall
"3 seconds to finish it off".... Now you're just taking the piss! :wtf:
Then may I suggest that you do some math and figure it out, before setting such ridiculous and arbitrary restrictions on the nominating and seconding processes. 02-28-2017 03:13 PMMattrickI'm basing the numbers on 200 nominations, and the actual number of nominations will be within that range. It's more figuring how how I want to format it which will determine the exact number.
These restrictions are due to a large part of the way you and a few others overpowered the nominations and seconds with your choices in past tournaments. This prevents that. The math works out just fine and everyone will get to have some input. Sorry dude, but if you want to nominate 5 scenes from Goodfellas, you're just going to have to pick the two you think are most deserving. What's ridiculous is how the comedy tournament nominations when down. That was ridiculous. 02-28-2017 04:24 PMfernanditoLooks good to me, Matt.
Don't know about that "3 seconds" thing though.... that's a little draconian, no? 02-28-2017 04:28 PMMattrickEveryone gets three more seconds/thirds. I don't imagine we'll get to that point and nominations should at least take a week with these guidelines in place.
If 25 people nominate 10 scenes we have 250 nominations with 475 seconds/thirds to go around. Some people might second more than they nominate though. We'll cross that bridge when/if we come to it. 02-28-2017 06:14 PMStill Servant
