I am reading 11/22/62 right now, but we only got one copy and it belongs to Robert. I tried like hell to get one too, but no dice...but at least I am reading it in August and not November! Being in this business is NOT teaching me patience! LOL

Karen, I'm envious!
John
awesome... I always wondered with stuff like arc's how many were or are produced? I mean the idea behind that was certainly not to give them out to publishers so they sell it on ebay, right?
That's the one question regarding proofs/ARCs that can almost never be answered. Most times the number published is a closely held secret. There are a few exceptions, though.
John
How do you estimate market value then? Copies showing up on the market for sure?
Then again, I wonder if journalists or publishing people know the relative value of these items...?
Again, you've struck the nail on the head. I try to estimate market value of the various proofs by using the completed auctions off eBay, what I think (given my experiences) a particular proof may be worth, etc. Right now, the proof market is pretty slow and prices are fairly low (there just aren't enough proof collectors around right now). For me, what I pay is what I think the proof is worth TO ME. If the asking prices is too high, I will pass.
I'm sure some of the reviewers know the value of what they have, but the ones that are actually used as they are intended are often in less than collectible condition. Condition means a lot!
John
Yeah, my copy of 11/22/63 is not going to be in very good shape when I'm done with it.
Just arrived today:

Interestingly, this is numbered with a number that indicates many more than 70 (which Lilja posted) were published. Because H&S has indicated they will take measures against people selling these before the release of the book, I'm not disclosing the number.
Also, each page of this proof is overprinted with a statement "Embargoed Hodder & Stoughton". I've never seen this before.
John
Congratulations John ! Hoping to get my hands on either the US or UK proof someday :)
Here's part of a page in my UK 11.22.63 proof:

I didn't want to open the proof too widely because I was worried about breaking the spine, so this is the best I could do with my scanner.
John
And here's the page of the other state of the proof without the "Embargoed" statement. I just got this one today.

I also got the publisher's letter with this one, but I won't be posting that one until after the book itself is published. I don't want to possibly disclose my contact.
John
strange why hodder would stamp on one and not the other. you'd think it would be as easy to just stamp them all.
It's not really a stamp--it's been actually printed on each page. And I agree, it IS strange!
John
I'll add this information to the 11/22/63 proof entry in the Catalog. Can I use your scans, John?
Sure, no problem.
John
I don't know if it's a watermark or what. All I know is that it's printed on every page, except the page facing the front cover. Strange.
John
Congrats John. Great new additions to your hugely impressive proof collection.
