I was going to come next week, and bring my godson who's visiting on summer vacation from the states, as I was scheduled to be off from Tuesday to Thursday ... then found today when I went to work that they'd changed the whole schedule without bothering to ask me. Not pleased, not pleased at all. Herbert, if I can pull it off sometime in the next 2-3 weeks, you'll be the first to know!
Apparently BN.com thinks that CD's Brian Freeman wrote The Painted Darkness. From the site:
"A free prerelease e-book edition has garnered plenty of advance buzz for this fast-paced, satisfying horror novella from Cemetery Dance Magazine editor Freeman."
Brian DID write the book.
Whoops! I think I'm getting mixed up with the other Brian Freeman again. I know they've gotten mixed up on the boards before, and I guess I took it to mean that CD's BF wasn't a writer. Guess I was wong!
lol
A short, promising review of King's upcoming short story 'The Little Green God of Agony': http://charnelhouse.tripod.com/littlegreengod.html
Thanks for the link! Sounds very interesting!

The extra FDNS story is 'Under The Weather'. 'Premium Harmony' was published in New Yorker Magazine: http://www.newyorker.com/fiction/fea...i_fiction_king
I've got a new dog, sooooo amazing!!!
Before and after of the speaker restoration. The cabinet should be done by Friday, the Radio and Phonograph are going to take 6+weeks. I am hoping to present this to my wife in late September as a 50Th birthday present.
The piece was her (now deceased) Father's High School Graduation present in 1947.

What a really nice gift!!! Hope she's not a member here!!! LOL
"The piece was her (now deceased) Father's High School Graduation present in 1947."
Very nice. :)
Laugh Out Loud!!!!
I am so "jazzed" about the restoration. The cabinet should be done in several days. I plan on hiding the cabinet at the local storage place until her birthday party (9/25/11-lots of pressure there IF I go to the King signing), then presenting it in working order with a 78 RPM record circa 1947. Her Father's favorite artist was Frank Sinatra. Perhaps it will be "Always-Frank Sinatra"

Couple of good things happened this week.
Passed my CompTia Project + certification test (finally took it, took the class last September), so now that it's been on my Project Manager resume for so long it's actually legit. Second, got the family out of the house for a couple of weeks so I can actually get some stuff done (like quality time here in the forums, hahah). Third, wife and I decided that whether or not a Senior Project Manager job offer that I've accepted in Colorado Springs comes through or not (the offer is pending award of a contract to the company, which hopefully will happen in the next few weeks) we are going to move to Colorado Springs regardless. I've been out of real work (part time at Subway doesn't count to me) for over a year, and just can't job hunt like I need to from Germany ... the computer alone just doesn't cut it, have to be there in person. With all of the government financial screwups, the GS positions that were here are all gone (just gone ... not put on hold, deleted) and there isn't enough U.S. company business in Germany.
From what I hear and read, C Springs is a great place for family, cost of living, school, tons of jobs in my sector (defense, military, electronics, etc.). I was there on Temporary Duty for a week once, loved what I saw. So, rather than waste more time and money here, we're going to pack it up and just go, hopefully by September 1st so our son can start school there rather than transfer over.
So, anybody here live in Colorado Springs? Just looking for more insight on where to live and info on elementary schools. I've been told school districts 20 and 11 are the best, and to live on the north, northeast, or east sides. If my PM job comes through, I'll be working in Old Colorado City, on the west side. Anybody?
On the bad side, this means packing up the house in the next 30 days, putting everything into containers to cross the ocean, and then having it be in (probably) "storage" (climate controlled or not, I do not know) for several months until we buy a house. Oh, poor poor my books. I'm going to pack them myself rather than let the movers do it, and am going to use some heavy duty Rubbermaid types which can be latched and locked. I've heard that rice is an excellent alternative to dessicant packages for controlling moisture within boxes; any thoughts? Oh, poor poor my books.
Colorado Springs is about a 6 hour drive from Amarillo. Come see me when you get settled in.
Thanks Bob, I might just do that. I'm shipping the car, and the point of pickup is Dallas ... the drive back takes me right through Amarillo. Polish up the collection and hide the good scotch whiskey :-)
George,
Colorado Springs is a really good choice, very beautiful, four "full" seasons.
I've "vacation traveled" probably about half of the 50 states & can honestly say Colorado is by far one of my top 2 personal favorites.
Years ago I was looking to get out of the madhouse of Southern California for about half a dozen good reasons, I spent about 3 months over 3 years searching to find that "perfect place"
I considered Colorado springs, but I eventually ended up in Oregon. Financially easier than Colorado at the time, no regrets. The rain gets a little old but still a good choice.
Anyway.. Congratulations

Congrats on the dog, Tom.
That is a wonderful thing you're doing for your wife, Jerome. I'm sure she'll be amazed.
George, good luck with your move. In addition to using heavy duty plastic tubs to store your books, I recommend using plastic book bags (online links in the Tutorial subforum in the thread about book protection), then plenty of bubblewrap.
I have very fond memories of Colorado Springs. Lived there for a little while as a teenager. Garden of the Gods was the party place. And sometimes you could ski in nothing more than t-shirt and jeans because of the dryer climate. My friends parents all seemed very down to earth - not too much drama from what I recall. Lots of air force guys around. Wasnt there for very long but I do remember reading The Shining in the finished basement of our house (its the only place that was quiet) and getting totally freaked out.
I posted this is in the main 'News' thread too...
But, the Dark Tower movie is officially over:

This is good news...like I posted elsewhere, maybe now they'll scale back to an HBO-size series that everyone agrees is the way to go, and that "Game of Thrones" has proven works. Unfortunately, it's now several years away, if ever.
Fudge!
LOL Boy, I bet Matt is smiling at his fortunes after hearing this news!!!!! LOL Someone is getting a tax write-off!!!! LOL
Is my glass half full or empty? Having just finished the stellar HBO series GOT, they did an amazing job staying true to the novel. With the right casting, a DT HBO series may well be better than a movie series.
I think you're not thinking about how much could the earnings be for movies. Don't forget about Lord of the Rings...
If previous King adaptations are an indicator of potential box office earnings, I'm not surprised why the studio passed on this. Showcase and HBO have been producing quality shows in the last few years. I'm sure they'd do a great job on this too. Sure, it's not Hollywood money but I don't think we're talking about pennies either.
From the Mod at SKMB today:
"Unless/until there's an official release from Imagine Entertainment saying the project is dead or that alternate sources won't be approached for funding it, these reports are still in the rumor column. "
I asked a bookseller a question regarding one of his listings on ABE and his response was telling me to buy the book and put my question in the "comment" box before placing the order. Then he'd answer my question before shipping. WTF?
I would DEFINITELY NOT BUY that book, and avoid that seller from here on!
John
With all due respect to Mr. King... Dark Tower is no Lord of the Rings. LoTR had worldwide appeal for 40+ years as novels and appealed to a much wider audience. I do not feel the box office potential of a Dark Tower trilogy would even approach LoTR in terms of success.
+2...
It is however, on a par with "Game of Thrones." True, they don't make LOTR/Potter money (which would never have happened), but it's a perfectly valid second choice.
Yeah, they went with the billion dollar home run swing with this whole project...they tried, they missed. It doesn't matter if Imagine is still on board with it or not - they don't have a studio, and they don't have the money. Ron Howard's already casting another movie. And, again, even IF another studio gets on board then we're still talking 2014 or further.
My daughter just invited me to dinner and then to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 3D!
