Everyone check out the Official Dark Tower website -

http://www.stephenking.com/darktower/

Suddenly the main artwork is an extreme close-up of Roland's face with "Ka is a Wheel" in big white lettering and November 2009. What's THAT about?? I was at that site yesterday and it wasn't there.

Cloysterpete

Probably just promo art for one of Marvels comics?.

I'll try not to get excited because i'll likely be disappointed lol.

Wuducynn
09-24-2009, 10:48 AM
Usually if it's a promo for one of the comics it would say so. Maybe you're right though. It was just new and seemed different from their past ads for new arcs.

mae

Doesn't look like any of the Marvel art.

Cloysterpete

aah it would be great to get a new DT novella wouldn't it, has King ever mentioned still thinking about new Tower Tales or has he stated the DT is over for good?.

mae

Well, there was "Ur"...

Cloysterpete
09-24-2009, 11:06 AM
how much DT related is UR?.

If it's possible to answer that question without any spoilers lol.

Damnit, all the plugins are broken at work. Now I have to go home and check that out.

Maybe Under the Dome is a DT related tale? like Insomnia?

Merlin1958
09-24-2009, 02:39 PM
Wow!! This may be a bit off topic but, since UTD is the only 11/09 title coming out that I know of I thought I'd check out some of the promo stuff to see if maybe there are any DT hints and man if they don't have a boat-load of promo content set-up between the SK.com site and the one Schuster set-up. I even applied to the Chester's Mill Police Dept. for a job!!!! lol lol

Sadly though I didn't see anything that would make it a DT related book right off. However the jury could still be out on that.

Do you by chance have the 411?

Wuducynn

The only thing that seems to make sense is that it's referring to The Battle of Jericho arc, first issue scheduled to come out 11/25.

turtlex
09-24-2009, 04:10 PM
Well, that's true, Jericho starts in November - but what's so special about the new comic arc that is gets a fancy splash page?!? And I would be VERY surprised if that graphic of Roland is from the new arc ( Jae Lee ). That looks like a water color or a pastel or something... not at all like a comic page.

Hmmmmmm. :orely:

Honestly though, I doubt it's going to be anything like that. They're supposed to be having a interactive Dark Tower experience sometime this year or next and I'm thinking this might be reference to that. But why "Ka is a Wheel"? That's still got me mystified.

From what I understand the whole site is going to changed to be a virtual experience thing. It's not necessarily going to be a game exactly.

Was just catching up on threads and this is freaking me out! :excited:

I have a while yet to hope that it's a whole new Dark Tower book...I saw an article where King said that he's planning another one, but that was from March so it's probably been discussed plenty here. And that's the only place I've seen that info so far, anyway.

I have not heard of this. If you could find a link to this article that would be great. I wouldn't get your hopes up about a new book, but the most likely thing is the Dark Tower Interactive Experience that we've been talking about.

Yeah, I know... :/

It was this: http://blogs.usaweekend.com/whos_news/2009/03/stephen-king-no.html
I think it's a USA Today supplement blog (?)

When we were chatting about his upcoming book Under the Dome, a novel with political subtext out in November, King said he had recently had an idea for a short story. “And then I thought, ‘Well, why don’t I find three more like this and do a book that would be almost like modern fairy tales?’ Then this thing started to add on bits and pieces so I guess it will be a novel.” That idea, according to King, is for a new Dark Tower novel, a continuation of his epic seven-part fantasy/sci-fi/Western series about a lone gunslinger named Roland and his ongoing hunt for the Man in Black. “It’s not really done yet,” King admits of his magnum opus. “Those seven books are really sections of one long uber-novel.”

Who knows? Maybe it won't be directly about Roland? Or maybe it will, and this will be the novelization of the prequel comic series that he was thinking of doing. Doesn't sound like it from the interview though. Sounds like it might be a closely related story taking place in Mid-World.

This is indeed exciting.

When I finished book 7 I kind of felt King was setting up the opportunity for more DT books. After all, Roland had the horn, so everything that lay in front of him from that point would be different than what we had already read.

From Ms. Mod's latest comments I'm getting the feeling we're talking about the interactive DT blah-thing.

It will be a feast for your eyes.

I'm just excited (and a little nervous) about it after having been involved with the production end for the past 10 months or so and am hoping that all of you will be equally excited.

But I don't think this negates what King told USA Today about continuing the DT series.

I just found out about this yesterday from Liljas's site. That's what I get for sticking mainly to the Comics and (occasionally) book discussion.

Reading everything I doubt it will be a new book, although I hope there is one in future if dealt with in the right way. I'm not sure it should be set 'after' book 7 considering the way it ended. Actually, part of me would love a continuation, even if only a small portion of that life, but in other ways it seems perfect as is, if that makes sense. A chapter within the journey maybe without revealing Roland's final fate, maybe? I'd prefer that be kept ambiguous.

'Feast for their eyes' certainly suggests web content. However that 'ka is a wheel' also suggests some kind of continuation. Would an interactive 'fact-file' constitute that (if that's what the content will be)? I hope it's more than just an exposure of fact we already know in an interesting way though... although I'll certainly peruse it.

All good news though.

i mean, i hate to play the annie wilkes card here but. . . . anyone remember the old serial shorts she was bitching about in misery? and how it always pissed her off that the hero got out of the jam in the next week's reel somehow even though that wasn't how the previous week's reel had ended?

Hi new guy here. Been checking on this thread since seeing the 'ka is a wheel' thing myself and felt like chiming in.

Now I may have got the wrong end of the stick here but this quote;

'...King said he had recently had an idea for a short story. “Those seven books are really sections of one long uber-novel.”

seemed pretty clear to me. A new DT novel is on the way, a continuation of the seven, and as far as i'm aware (please correct me if wrong) there's yet to be an 'offical' announcment of said novel.

Of course it is possible that the current, and up coming, teaser relates to something else but is that really likely?

Of course it is possible that the current, and up coming, teaser relates to something else but is that really likely?

Since there was an "interactive Flash experience" that was supposed to come out in 2008, based on the then-new official DT site, I think it's likely that they're still planning to do that. Probably just took way longer to do than expected, or got delayed for other reasons? (The placeholder Ka is a Wheel image is a Flash object, so it's even possible that there will be something going on in that part of the DT site eventually...IMO.)

A confirmation from Ms. Mod that the new DT book and the "November Surprise" are not the same thing -

Steve had told me over a year ago that he had an idea for a new Dark Tower story. He has been working on many different projects since then. I have not seen a finished Dark Tower manuscript among them but I also didn't see the poems that have recently become available.

I'm guessing that this news and the DT page with the November teaser are one and the same? I know I wont be sleeping much until I find out what it is, haha.

No, they are not the same project.

Hello DarkTower.com,

My name is Brian. I work for Stephen King on the Official Web Site. We posted more info about the "Ka is a Wheel" promo this morning. If you guys have any questions about this update, please feel free to send 'em my way. (or on the official MB) Please be gentle. We've all worked extremely hard on this one.:panic: :)

We plan to put some sort of news story or FAQ info page together that will explain more of what is going on. For now, we just want to give the fans a little food for thought.

I think that establishing a list of known questions is a good idea too. I think you guys can really help out on that if you have the time.

I hope you enjoy it! This means a lot to everyone involved.

I am pretty excited about this! At first I thought maybe (just maybe) we'd get the story of the three founder's of the Tet Corp. .... No luck there tho' :( !

Regardless, pretty cool. Seems like we will likely play a "Tet Operative" and go about the mission of finding and capturing/killing Sombra's new head.

My only real concerns with this idea is that I (am hoping) this doesn't attempt to alter events from the Tower books. But then, time runs only one way in Keystone Earth. So very likely she goes to mid-world to try to F up our Ka-tet's progress.

Other thing, doesn't indicate Sai King has anything to do with writing on the project, but it *does* indicate Robin Furth has involvement. Now don't get me wrong, she's a fine writer and obviously as close to the Tower lore as anyone can be, but it just seems like this might result in a sort of official fan-fic. .... Maybe I'm just looking into it too much :l

As a game of course it's likely things will end up different from the book, since games can end in different ways (lose or win being the most obvious). I shouldn't view it as a canonical further chapter in the story. Except... I suppose we could since there are other worlds than these, and therefore each outcome of the game could be circling the Tower somewhere... Well perhaps not lose as there might not be a Tower. (If you take quanturm mechanics multiverse theory to it's extreme you end up with paradoxes again.)

Anyhow, a nice surprise. I didn't realise it would be this soon. I've yet to see it mind you, I'm basically filling time waiting for the film download by typing this.

EDIT- Ok, I've seen it now. Interesting angle. I see the world has moved on 'our side', I wonder how that correlates to Mid-world? :) Considering all the faces we see though, I think that it's likely a (spoilers for Last book ending) later loop. But time goes on as normal in the keystone world where it's... now. Just my impression.

Considering time has moved on in the keystone world, I wonder when this is in Mid-world? I'm thinking an earlier time period but a later loop.

The Arina character and concept is Brian's with Steve's approval on all aspects of the storyline and artwork. if it is not very urgent, I will look into it Sunday morning

only please tell me where exactly to look, I just don't have a moment now to find out what all that is

ETA: if it is urgent, I will try tomorrow morning (Moscow time), but only if I know where to look. I tried now to find out what you were talking about, and was lost in this thread, but then again, I have to go to work right now so I couldn't even look properly.

It's throughout parts of the preview for "Discordia". There are things in Russian. Here's a link for your convenience -

I had hoped there was a bear or two within reach? Or would it be considered unfair toward national labor force to attract foreigners?

looks like a sort of interactive 2d game, something of a crime solving one perhaps, rather than your typical million dollar action game

looks very interesting

It sure looks like an interactive game. Plus that whole teaser ends with "come and play".

I wonder if it will be like the 'Blade Runner' video game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade_Runner_%281997_video_game%29) for 1997? Kind of a detective game.

Slightly off topic RF, but as a Blade Runner fan, have you played this game, and if you have, just how good was it? Cause i know it's years old, but it does sound pretty cool, from what i've read. Certainly sounds like the kind of game that would appeal to me, anyway.

i'd also like to thank Jean for the translation, as I just got around to seeing it. What had me curious is the yellow post-it.

I'm thinking a type of "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" style game.
Or, in this case, "Where in Mid-World is Arina Yokova?"

i'm not gonna lie, i was hoping that it would be a MMORPG or something of that sort. god that would be sick....but an ARG can't be that bad, and if it's got roland and friends tagging along, i'm sure it'll be just fine

Yes. From today's perspective it may not be as exciting, but I can remember loading the ENTIRE game (over a gig), rather than run it from the CD drive, on my Gateway laptop that had a 3.2 gig hard drive and 192 megs of ram, and a 16.5" screen- all state of the art in 1997. Over $5k.
A copy and the strategy guide are on ebay right now for $.99.

To be fair, Randall, that was kinda my fault by asking you about the Blade Runner game. (Thanks for the tip, btw.) I'd love to play an actual detective game, really. Those kind of games are few and far between, especially in this day and age. I'm not gonna have any actual expectations of Discordia, though. We've been given so little, best to just wait and see, really.

Hey everyone,

We have posted a new feature banner on SK.com/DarkTower. While this is a tiny update, it does clarify some of the lingering questions about what this is all about.

Hmmm. What's that there.....

So... like an online comic book?!?

Not really clarifying. Not really.
