Dirty Harry went from 1 vote behind the others to 1 vote ahead.
Boy, it's neck-and-neck. What a contest!

Dirty Harry has become FAR more iconic that either of the other two. So I had to go with him.

Oh no, this is close.
Well the Bride was my pick the first go round, so I'm sticking with her. :)

didn't say that, though, did i?

besides, fernando voted for v. i will not accept that the poor film adaptation is a better movie character than ms. kiddo.

But we're voting for characters, not movies :P And come on! Hugo Weaving as V is a mother'f dude!

V

I think Callahan gets a lot of votes just by virtue of the fact that Eastwood is playing him and in this neighborhood, Clint is everybody's ultimate Roland. Its an unfair advantage if you ask me.

While I love Clint in all the old S'ghetti Westerns, he's not my ultimate Roland by a long shot.

If he has an unfair advantage (and I'm not sure that any character has an unfair advantage in this completely unscientific polling based on opinions of people who (a) see this is happening on the site, (b) care about the contest, and (c) care enough to actually vote), then it's because he is iconic and has been so for far longer than either the bride or V.

If any characters here have an advantage, then I think it goes to characters in newer movies. Have you noticed that almost all of the nominees are from movies made during the last 35 years?

GROUP A
Elwood P. Dowd (Harvey)
Lon Chaney (The Phantom Of The Opera)

GROUP B
Nobody

GROUP C
Geoffrey (The Lion in the Winter)
Rick Blaine (Casablanca)

GROUP D
Norman Bates (Psycho)

GROUP E
Atticus Finch (To Kill a Mockingbird)
Richard (The Lion in the Winter)

GROUP F
Count Orlock (Nosferatu: A Symphony of Terror)
Mary Poppins (Mary Poppins)

GROUP G
Baby Jane Hudson (Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?)

GROUP H
Nobody

GROUP I
Henry II (The Lion in the Winter)
Scarlett O'Hara (Gone With The Wind)
John (The Lion in the Winter)

GROUP J
Harry Powell (Night of the Hunter)

GROUP K
Kris Kringle (Miracle on 34th Street)

GROUP L
Eleanor (The Lion in the Winter)
Dorothy Gale (Wizard of Oz)
Alais (The Lion in the Winter)

GROUP M
Charles Foster Kane (Citizen Kane)
George Bailey (It's a Wonderful Life)
Walter Neff (Double Indemnity)

GROUP N
John L. Sullivan (Sullivan's Travels)
Juror #8 (Twelve Angry Men)

GROUP O
Nobody

GROUP P
Jean-Louise "Scout" Finch (To Kill A Mockingbird)

So that's what? Only about 25 nominations total for movies made more than 35 years ago? And out of those, only 6 have advanced.

I think Harry's ahead because almost all of us have said "Go ahead. Make my day." at some point or another.

I'm not surprised by that at all. There's not a whole lotta people on these boards that watch or are a fan of older films. I remember getting into this argument alot when the Best Movie of All Time Tournament was going on.

Oh I'm not surprised by it, I'm just offering an alternate explanation for Cozener.

I had to vote for Dirty Harry. Just look at this sampler from my button collection:

You can probably determine some of my other votes, too.

That doesn't surprise me at all. In fact, I had highly suspected it. :huglove:

I wish at least one from The Lion in Winter (don't forget that it's this Saturday!) had made the list.
