Okay, so we caught this last night with the kids. It was cute an all until about half way through when they did the challenge to assign jobs.

Its a total class system!! :arg:

The "upper class" doesn't have to work at all but gets paid the most.

There is no middle class

Everyone else is service providers. No chance to move out of your class as far as I know.

We turned it off and had a family discussion about societies.

:arg: Total BS huh, thats what I thought too

Wow, I had no idea they were going to do it that way. I figured it would be more "communish" where the kids all learned to help each other out. But then, if that was the case, I guess it would have been called "Kid Commune", huh?

I went for sleazy tv last night, as I enjoyed America's Next Top Model and Gossip Girl.

I was disturbed by this show. I was also a few bong hits deep when my buddy turned it on. no one spoke. we went from curiosity to wonder to fear in a matter of seconds.

i don't know if it's the old west abandoned town setting, or the attitude of some of the kids, or the fact that they threw out pounds of macaroni and cheese into the street, but this show bothers me. it's creepy...

Matt

I totally agree, its off the TV for us. I don't want my kids thinking they have a "station" in life. <_<

COTC all over again
(Children of the Corn):scared:

Mike Beck
09-20-2007, 07:42 AM
it's terrible.

Storyslinger, that's the first thing I thought of when we were watching that shit!

Children of the Corn meets Lord of the Flies meets Tombstone (minus Doc Holiday's incredible dialogue).

I have a question....why did they throw mac and cheese in the street?

Matt
09-20-2007, 07:50 AM
I missed that part. Dora makes extra money being a notary and I had to drive her around.

Mike Beck
09-20-2007, 07:54 AM
well, i guess one of the kids made way too much. i mean pounds of the stuff. one girl freaked out because they put the noodles in before the water had boiled. she took the entire pot and emptied it in the dirt road. like a bitch.

:)

I wish I hadn't read it. I live in a poor country, you see. Oh Lord.

Mike Beck

perfectly good mac and cheese. it's a damn shame.

Matt
09-20-2007, 08:27 AM
Sad fucking state of affairs, I'll tell you that. <_<

They also have some jerks running around there vandalizing stuff. I'm thinking..."yeah, this is just what my kids need to be watching"

Arthur Heath

If there going to go to a 'total class system' why not go all the way and make it hell on these kids - COMMUNISM.
Its the only thing more ridiculous I can think of other than what I've been reading in this thread.

Matt
09-20-2007, 09:08 AM
I agree man, its bullshit that they segregated them into these "classes" and did not do a thing with individual achievement.

Even the game of LIFE lets you spin a wheel for yourself, its not a group challenge.

She-Oy

I always cheated at LIFE...how sad a person does that make me?? LOL

Mike Beck
09-20-2007, 09:41 AM
it's a microcosm of how you are in real Life. :D

it's okay. I always tried to finagle the wheel so that i ended up with a great career like doctor. :P

She-Oy
09-20-2007, 09:42 AM
That's what I'm talking about, it was the career's and the amount of kids. I always wanted my car stuffed with lots of pink and blue pegs because you'd get money for them in the end.

Matt
09-20-2007, 09:43 AM
That's actually true.

Nu-uh, maybe if you are living in the welfare line, or counting the tax breaks, or if your kids won the lottery and gave poor dad some of the loot, but I know I raped my parents when I was a kid...and so did my sister. And I'm sure Drew will do the same to us.

and this, I am afraid, is for yet another thread... (but you know what I mean, don't you? there's too many things to a human soul to limit it with what is normally called "real life")

I see Jean but I would never be able to say that co-called real life is overrated. Life can't be overrated.
But I really wouldn't like to change the topic.
Sorry.

I am hoping that it turns into Lord of the Flies by the end. I haven't watched it yet. If they really wanted to see the concept of the show work, they should have dumped them in a wooded area where there is live game and vegetation, had hidden cameras everywhere, all the supplies they need to build a society with a limited amount of food, dropped all the kids off with no adults. They then come back after 6 months to get the tapes and whatever kids are left alive. That'd be good TV.

Matt
09-20-2007, 09:54 AM
I'd watch that

Arthur Heath

Even if there wasn't directors and producers channeling the show to go into a certain direction I bet those kids eventually would have wound up in social classes. Thats just how our society works. That socialism at it's finest. For us to work as a whole there is always going to have to be a certain amount of people willing to do blue collar work. Salt of the earth type people. And of course theres always going to have to be an alloted amount of people who are going to employ blue collar workers. Now if these kids were not structured into these classes by directors on the first day and naturally fell into there own class would people be as upset I wonder?
And Chris, I'm hoping for a little Battle Royale (lord of the flies x 10)

Matt
09-20-2007, 10:36 AM
Sure, they would have ended up there, on their own merits.

What pissed me off is that they were placed there.

Yeah, as soon as I figured out those models were never getting naked. It kind of lost something for me.

We gotta have something until LOST!!

And that's what DVR was made for. I no have to stress when the networks do the face off thing. I can watch all of my shows when ever I want.

That said, I really liked how ABC most of their shows complete episodes online the day after they aired. I spent a lot Saturday and Sunday mornings catching up on things I couldn't watch.

And this may sound stupid, but I think that the DVR and internet really help to get people out of the house more. I can remember only 5 years ago when people wouldn't go out on Thursday night because :gasp: they might miss Friends. Now that doesn't happen.

Thanks to technology, the world is free to go play those softball games on a Thursday night, go drink beer with the buddies, or help your kid with their homework without fear that you might miss a tv program.

It's the ultimate easy button, and I'm soooooooo in!

That's what I was saying when i saw this one tv tonight. it'd be much cooler as a lord of the flies type deal.
