Towerpedia:Gabrielle Deschain

Gabrielle Deschain is a fictional character in author Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. Formerly Gabrielle Verriss, daughter of Alan, and referrred to by Roland as “Gabrielle-of-the-Waters", she is Roland Deschain's mother, and is killed by her own son's hand.

Gabrielle has a great amount of affection for her son, but cuckhold's his father, Steven, by having an affair with Marten Broadcloak, her husband's wizard. Roland's discovery of this affair is the impetus for his test of manhood at the age of fourteen.

Gabrielle is the one who teaches Roland the Baby-Bunting Rhyme, in which he learns the meaning of the word chassit.

Roland discovers his mother's plot to kill her husband in The Grapefruit, where he sees her scratch Steven with a poisoned knife. He tells his father of this plan while not revealing his mother's part in it, and the person who is to deliver the knife is thwarted. Roland goes to his mother one last time to give her a chance to redeem herself.

Sadly, we never know if Gabrielle would take this chance, as she is killed by Roland, who is fooled by The Grapefruit into believing his mother is Rhea of the Coös.
