I've been wanting to do some DT-themed crafts projects for a while now - and I finally sat down and stitched up a prototype bumbler. I knew my first project HAD to be a stuffed toy billy-bumbler, and I decided to do my first one 2-d style to make it easier.

Eventually I want to try one that looks more like an antique, maybe using some rougher-textured fabric and yarn.

I know the color's not right on this one...I'm also not settled on what the final shape should be...but I wanted to do a fast little mock-up because I'm impatient! :) This one is just plain felt I had sitting around.

Plus, I'm not decided about markings - stripes maybe? Not sure how to execute that yet.

When I figure out the final pattern I'll post the whole project here!

Thanks! I think Michael Whelan's illustrations will really help with deciding the colors/body patterns - mostly black and dark gray. Like Oy in this one (but simplified)

I think once I've figured em out I'll put at least one on Etsy, and post a pattern + tutorial here.

Thanks!

That's adorable. <3

What were you planning on using to create the patterns? Some kind of ink or paint, or sewn on fabric or stitching?

Thanks! I was going to stitch, but I'm thinking fabric paint might be better after all. I'm going to experiment once I get a chance to go to the fabric store.
