OK here's a test for all Stephen King Signed Book collectors to help improve your fake avoiding skills. Everyone welcome to give it a try.
Test your skill at picking out the real deal, and adding to your collection!

Go to the link at the bottom.

Now, if money was not an object, shop for any book you want.
As many as you want, hell, buy them all if you think they're good ones.

Right down the number of each book you're adding to your collection
and then list them here. Each reply will be scored for quality intelligent choices.

Hints: Don't ask for better images, if you can't tell, just dont buy it.
Buying a fake loses more points than not buying at all.
Some more difficult authentic ones score more than easier ones.
A perfect score is 2000.
NO MORE CLUES...:)

GOOD LUCK!! HAVE FUN.

Good idea Brice. I sent my selection direct to Darkmaniscoming

You are correct in your "even the experts can make mistakes" comment.

So many things to look at on a signature(here's my top two):

* Signature should flow gracefully from one letter to another(except speedy on the fly sigs) Even a real sig can sometimes look fake because of a speedy signing.

* Pressure points that indicate tracing or a slow fake (known as small bumps)

If its too much for one sitting, take your time, there's no rush.
Score is calculated by many factors...
Buying real ones scores points in various degrees of difficulty. (100-200)
Avoiding fakes scores (0-20)
Buying fakes loses points in various degrees...(-20 to -500)
If you dont buy a real one, you dont lose, but you miss out...:)

Oh just one other rule:

Challengers who buy 33, 62 and 66 must spend 7 days in the stockade where the rest of us shall throw rotten tomatoes, smelly eggs, and spoiled chicken livers at them until they wake up and smell the stench.:panic:

Money being no object these are the ones I would buy. None. I prefer the signed limiteds. I have several King signed books, but only two that I wouldn't part with. One is the first S/L I ever bought and the other is my copy of JAS that King signed just for me. The biggest reason I wouldn't buy them is because I have no connection with them. With the S/Ls I am buying a work of art (PLUS a guaranteed signature). Not so with a regular signed book.
Also I can not see these signatures well and would have to have a closer look or know the person selling them before I would buy.

However here are the ones I believe are actual signatures: 6, 19, 21, 22, 27, 36, 51, 63(if this is a fake they worked hard for it), 67, 71. I'm sure I missed some real ones and picked some fakes. There are several I suspect are real, but the pictures simply are not clear enough for me to see.

#63 is from either Postscripts 10 or the Colorado Kid... I think.

Alright, I'll take a crack at it. Although it'll be limited as I can't see the sigs overly well and I err strongly on the side of caution. I'd bite for: 1 (don't ask me why!), 2, 22, 41, 63, 67, 71.

Ok, I won't ask you why. Instead I shall ask, what caus-ed thee to choose #1? I was very close to choosing it too, but something just didn't seem right with it. I questioned most of my choices, but felt pretty safe with #63.

It just looks like a really rushed signature. Just one of those feelings tells me its legit. Likely, I am wrong. :wtf:

Theres a lot I was on the fence about, but without better pictures I wasn't willing to commit.

All very good points, your score is 950, very good.
You chose many of the real deal, but lost points with a few fakes.
As you said, in the real world you would have played it safer with hard earned money. I think that after the first round, we will up the ante with a picture double the size.
Look forward to your opinion next round.
You are the current "chip leader".

Eric scores 830, I must remember to add a tricky one next time that has a real limited page with a fake signature. I'm sure sooner or later we will be faced with fakers duplicating entire books?

Good job Eric, You purchased some of the good books, you got burned by a few tight ones. Chip Leader.....

I have actually seen entirely faked books, but it was a case where the book was self-published by the author. By this I mean the author printed the book on their printer and bound the book themselves. Anything that used a professional binding would be tough to duplicate, and something so specialized as the S/Ls would be so expensive and difficult to replicate that the thieves wouldn't bother.

Dark, PM me. I'm curious as to which one's were the fakes among my choices. I'll play right and keep it to myself.

Recently a Led Zeppelin rare tour book was bootlegged. They sold 1300 of the unknown quantity produced at $65 a piece. Profits were estimated at $79,000.00 before anyone caught wind. How many $400 books would you have to sell before this became a feasible plan for some scammer. Obviously not the nickle and dimer but these days dirty money looks to make more.

Sorry Sam, you'll have to hold your curiosity until others get a chance, I got big hopes for your adjustments in the better picture round..

LOL...yes, actual image from ebay item that seller believed was real. More of a confused seller rather than a crook.
I will tell you that all of these are actual listed items that were listed for sale, there are no "made up" ones, which is quite shocking really.
