Towerpedia:Henry Dean

Henry Dean is a fictional character in author Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. Henry is Eddie’s older brother, and is often referred to by Eddie as the great sage and eminent junkie, due to his witticisms while under the influence of heroin.

Early Life

Henry spent his childhood taking care of Eddie while their mother worked, and both boys were made to believe that, had Henry not had to sacrifice his potential to raise his brother, he could have been something great. Nothing was further from the truth. Henry was a manipulative bully, and growing up he had the uncanny ability to make Eddie do whatever he wanted. He was also an expert at making sure Eddie could never do anything better than he could; he would tease Eddie at every opportunity until the boy simply gave up. This was the cause of many of Eddie’s emotional problems in his adulthood.

Adulthood

After serving in Vietnam, Henry came home with an addiction to painkillers, which later led to his use of and addiction to heroin. It was not long before he talked Eddie into doing drugs with him, and the two of them spent quite a bit of their time stoned.

In order to get the heroin they needed, Henry once again used his influence to talk Eddie into running drugs for Enrico Balzar.

Death

Henry suffers an accidental overdose while in the care of Balzar’s men, and one of them threw his severed head at Eddie during the gun battle at the Leaning Tower.
