Those look great Pam. Well most of them do, one day they'll make a great Captain America Bust or Statue. I wait for that day. They somehow always seem to get either the face, the shirt, or the cowl wrong.

Sam - I am pretty sure there is a cool Capt bust. Lemme think on where I saw it.

Thanks Pam.
Of those, the only ones that look even close to right are the three Bowen designs (the old Cap, new Cap, and Bronze Cap). I just wish the star on his chest was more like the star on the Sideshow statue. It would look less cartoonish that way. Growing up Cap was my favorite for many years (ahead of Spiderman and The Punisher) and I'm picky about how he should look. Bowen got everything right except the star IMO. The Sideshow Cap looks like actor Jeff Kober under the mask. Look him up and compare them, you'll see it.

I am a Rogue fan... and I like everything about that new statue, except that weirdly stretched glove... it reminds me of dishwashing gloves for some reason!

Sam - I agree on Cap. I would love the statue you describe.... let me know when you put them in production!! :couple: My favorite is probably the one from Hard Hero.

Wow, just announced... About $250 smackers, but cool none the less.

http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/wizarduniverse_2043_468915991

Tie-in to Blackest Night... Green Lantern Corps rings.

The description at Wizard Universe is : Eight plated metal rings (each a different color, signifying the insignia of the various Corps) fit into a battery-operated, light-up resin display base. The rings are protected by a removable glass dome that sits on top of the base. This mixed-media, hand-painted, limited-edition piece measures approximately 8” high x 5.5” wide x 5.5” deep and is packaged in a 4-color box, along with a 4-color Certificate of Authenticity and an instruction sheet. Batteries are also included. * Rings are removable but are prop replicas ONLY and are not meant to be worn.

Note : I don't see any indication of what "limited edition" might mean... ie - how many will be made.

( I've always wanted a very cool Green Lantern ring... to wear!! )

That Rogue is more scary than sexy. Definitely a nod to her darker days.

There's something about the X-23 statue that I don't like. I guess she looks too grown up for my taste. I think of her as a kid. That means leather training bra. Not push-up bra. Sheesh.

Anyways, here are some true masterpieces. I know they're not new. But they're beautiful. From Diamond Select Toys:

A 2000 AD statue here, Psi-judge Cassandra Anderson. (It's be out for a while though, so it's not really new. It's doubtful you've seen it though so it amounts to the same thing. ;) )

I'm not keen on the eyes, she looks kinda freaky. Attractive body though....

http://www.ekmpowershop2.com/ekmps/shops/2000ad/images/judge_anderson(1)[ekm]148x300[ekm].jpg

At £44.99 it's very pricey though. (I've seen others figurines even more expensive.)

That turned out smaller than I expected! A bigger one can be found clicking the picture here:

Brainslinger - please post any statues/busts that you think we might be interest in, for sure. New is in the eye of the beholder...

... speaking of which - I have to agree that Cassandra looks a little freaky there, but I also have to agree with Sam, big time - because some of the newer statues and busts coming out - they list for 200+ dollars !

Sam
02-23-2009, 07:49 AM
Yeah:(, the price of the statues really brings me down these days. If you really want to cry, look at the prices for those same statues on ebay ten months later, and three days after the one you've been eyeing (and FINALLY have the money for) was sold from the last store in 100 miles to have one. Yeah, I'm not bitter. It's ok...really.

>Brainslinger - please post any statues/busts that you think we might be interest in, for sure.

Ok. Here is another 2000 AD character. Rogue Trooper. I started reading the comic after his time, but he was quite a popular character in his day.

http://www.ekmpowershop2.com/ekmps/shops/2000ad/images/rogue(2)[ekm]182x300[ekm].jpg

Zoomable version.
To give you some context, he is a member of the GI (Genetic infantry), a genetically engineered soldier created with immunity to the poisoned air of Nu-Earth and biowarfare. All GIs have microchips in their brains. If they die, their minds are downloaded onto the chip so they can be uploaded into a new body later.

They're fully conscious in chip form though and can be connected to items as a kind of AI. For example, if you look at his gun and helmet you'll see a chip. Those are two of his fallen comrades. There's another on his backpack. (For some reason, each of his buddies had rather descriptive names. Gunnar, Bagman, Helm etc. I've got a comedy comic concerning the fourth trooper who had the unfortunate name 'Butt-plug.')

There is a great game with him in. More information on the character here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_Trooper)

There are other 2000 AD figurines and action figures here.

I don't know half of them. I don't think the action figures are all that great so I didn't post them here.

There is another really great (and expensive) sculpture which I'd like to show you. It seems to have vanished from the usual place, but I'll try and hunt it down.

Brainslinger
02-23-2009, 10:08 AM
Here it is. (It's apparently out of stock, hence why it vanished.)

http://www.ekmpowershop2.com/ekmps/shops/2000ad/images/dreddstat[ekm]228x300[ekm].jpg
Zoomable version. (http://www.ekmpowershop2.com/ekmps/shops/2000ad/dredd-vs-death-statue-now-on-sale-xa106-303-p.asp)

Judge Death is a maniac from a parallel universe. He came to the conclusion that since all crimes are committed by the living, life itself was a crime. He (and his subordinates) wiped out his entire world. He and his colleagues are dead too. Through weird black magic his soul was bound to his corpse. Lovely chap, eh?
More information, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judge_Death)

That's him in his spiritual form. He usually possesses a specially prepared corpse.

I love this! I think I might get it at some point(more in my price range.):
http://www.comicscave.gr/shop/images/BOBBINGJUDGEDEATH.jpg

EDIT ---25 October 2009---
Looking back at this, the picture's vanished.
Reading through my posts, I didn't half waffle on didn't I? Note to self: just show the sculptures man!

That's a head knocker by the way. His head isn't really that big.

Mr Fixit!

Speaking of retro Hulk, a friend of mine went on holiday to New York over the new year and she brought me back a Hulk picture! I'm not sure of the proper term for this kind but it was all metal. Funny thing is, on looking at it, there were signs of wear, like the paint had been chipped away. Turns out it was purposefully done that way to give it that 'retro look.'

She got it for me because she knew I was into comics.

Actually I haven't read that much Hulk, apart from the odd strip that was part of my neighbor's Spiderman comics.* (I used to swap him my Beano for his Spiderman.) I felt pretty chuffed with it though! (It's on my wall now.)

*Oh I read the first volume of the The Ultimates too, but I didn't like their depiction of Hulk very much. Was the original Hulk that homicidal? I remember him getting angry and yelling "HULK SMASH" a lot but he rarely actually killed anyone that I remember. I really liked the cartoon and the series though (hence my recognizing grey Hulk Mr Fixit.)

Brainslinger

Concerning the second picture, that Witchblade has got to be the sexiest superheroine isn't she? That's certainly a well sculpted booty.

Brainslinger - can you post a photo of the retro hulk? I'd love to see it.

I've read a little Hulk, way back at like issue 420 in 1994 or so ( I know because I have that very issue cgc'd ).

Um, that Mr Fixit Hulk... scary.

ETA : That faux statue is FATHOM ( not Witchblade ). Both very beautiful.

I found it on ebay, but was able to trace the bust to Dynamic Forces. It was sculpted by Rick Force and painted by Dan Lane and based on the image adorning Frank Miller's Wolverine issue #1. What I haven't been able to find is a release date. It was released long ago enough for it to be sold out and selling for more than three (almost four) times its original price of $90. The damn thing is a full 8 inches tall!!

I have two problems with the Hal Jordan. First is the flame crap. What the hell's that about. Second, and truly unforgivable to me, the ring Hal is wearing is wrong. It's supposed to be circular with the lantern shap in the circle, not in the shape of a lantern. Perhaps they'll correct it in the final product.

The Ollie is pretty cool though.

turtlex
03-31-2009, 02:24 AM
Sam - I don't think that's supposed to be flames... it's supposed to be the green light coming out of the lanters ( the base is the green lantern )...and the ring looks like the one on this chest to me... I'm gonna see if I can find a better picture. Gosh you have good eyes!

Regardless, I love it. It's hard to tell by this picture, but the marquee with the movie title actually lights up.

I've got one pic somewhere on here, in that what other things do you collect thread, have a look in my past posts, I only have a few posts so it won't take all night lol.

Next time I dust the little suckers I'll drag a few of my favs out, Gorilla Grodd is one thats cool but then you get MASSIVE (well at least they are compared to the others) guys like The Watcher.

Great thing is because there's so many there getting down to the really weird and obscure characters now, sure everynow and then you get someone crap like Impossible Man but overall it's a really cool selection, especially as most of them are chosen by the people who buy them (we vote for our fav characters who then get made), only rule is they had to have had 30 comic appearances because they need enough history to fill the magazine that comes with them.

==edit==
There pretty hard to find in the US ($12 each btw), Diamond imports them from the UK but how many lcs actually stock them?, i'm guessing not that many?!?. I've seen pictures of a big display for them at SDCC so they do promote them a little bit at least, and there always in that previews mag thingy.

turtlex

I am very interested here... about how big are they? Tall?

( gee, cause I need yet another thing to collect, right?!? :couple: )

Cloysterpete
07-30-2009, 02:30 PM
There teeny dude, but still impressively detailed, the smallest would be I dunno someone like Wolvie at 3 1/2" and the biggest would be someone like Galactus at 6". You'd be surprised how heavy they are being made of lead an 'all.

There are plenty of US collectors I know of though, in-fact John Byrne himself collects them and posts pic of his collection on his own forum, ones he's customized himself too. Though he's always bitching when they sculpt do one of the characters he created slightly wrong.

There's a whole forum for the pieces which has a big thread for US collectors so there not impossible to find, just tricky, then there's always e-bay and importing from the UK, though that would be expensive with the weight of them.

I like the mags though, there hilarious, there written really humorously and they poke fun at the characters (DC don't allow this in their mags btw) all the time, none of the US collectors like this at all but thats just them taking their precious characters to serious.

I go back and forth on the "action figures" because they can be pricey and to me, they never look as good when I get them as they do in the advertisements...

Fair enough. The very thing that allows you to pose them (movable joints, etc.) makes them look a bit odd... (I don't buy either though but I'm certainly not opposed to it.)

That one is £14.99. That does seem a bit steep to me as I've seen other figures for around the £8-9 mark but I don't know much about it. On the other hand I've seen other figures WAAAY up, the kind of price I'd expect to pay for a model/statue. Then again they tend to look in the same calibre too except being poseable.

By the way, here's a retro Hulk picture a friend of mine bought me on her visit to New York last year. I know this thread is really for models and such, but it doesn't seem worth starting a thread especially. And it doesn't really fit in the sexy comic lady thread. (Not unless She-hulk's mutation had suddenly taken a drastic turn for the worse and one had rather kinky tendencies. Lets not go there...)

It's interesting as it's actually metal. I'd imagine there's a proper name for such things. (A panel?) I felt a bit guilty actually as I thought it looked rather worn... then found out it's intentional to give it that 'retro' look.

http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/pp149/cmardle/Hulk.jpg

Please excuse the stripey wallpaper. I should have taken that picture more central.

turtlex
08-29-2009, 12:28 PM
Actually, that seems a pretty good price.

I was referring to the "action figures" I see which usually run anywhere from $50 - $75 each. They're supposed to be high-end or whatever, but when they arrive, they still seem very cheap.

Wait... what's £14.99 in USD?!?

Oh, that sign looks good. Generally I believe they're referred to as Tin Signs. If it's an actual old advertising tin sign, could be worth some bucks.

Brainslinger
08-29-2009, 12:52 PM
Wait... what's £14.99 in USD?!?

According to the currency convertor that's $24.394 ;). Very precise eh?

It might not actually be that amount over in the States though. Quite often you can pick that sort of thing up cheaper.

Oh, that sign looks good. Generally I believe they're referred to as Tin Signs. If it's an actual old advertising tin sign, could be worth some bucks.

I just found out here (http://2000adonline.com/forum/index.php/topic,26850.0.html) that there is going to be a new range of 2000 AD figures! I'm looking forward to this a lot, although whether or not I'll actually buy any will depend a lot on the prices. On one hand I'm glad they're going for a detailed quality product, (mind you they would say that wouldn't they, but they are bringing an ex 2000 AD artist on board). On that other hand they could be pricey for that very reason.

Sam

New stuff from Bowen's website.

Here we have a first. I think it loos pretty good, and according to the site, there will be clear resin energy rings... somewhere. I give you Cyclops's brother, Havok
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/Havok.jpg

A new bust has come out as well. This one isn't even close to being up to snuff with the rest of Bowen's work with the character of Wolverine, but that's my opinion. It's titled Logan.

I don't think you missed anything so much as that Surfer was sold out before it was announced. It must have been opened to his club members first. I was on the site just three days ago (Monday in fact) and I didn't see ANY of those new statues on the site. Not one, and the Surfer is the only one that's marked "SOLD OUT". Incidently, the Cap bust that was supposed to be released in DEC '09 hasn't shown up yet, and hasn't shipped either. Oh well.

So true, Sam. Sorry, yes - that's Ultimate Cap.

I am bummed about the Silver Surfer Faux Bronze though. It looks very cool. Pricey - I think it listed for $300 but it looks swanky.

To tell you the truth Pam, you can probably get it for right at or maybe even under retail if you watch ebay closely enough.

Well Patrick, Ultimate Cap is in the current Ultimate Avengers title. He was a major player in the Ultimates series as well. As for the Silver Surfer... never heard of 'em.

Wow. Do you really think so? Those Bowen Faux Bronze statues really go up in value. I'll have to keep an eye out - that's still a lot of money, but I honestly never thought I'd see one again for close to list.

All comics are cool. Didn't you get the memo?!? :D

Sam

If you look though, for the last seven months or so the Bowen Statues on ebay haven't been selling as hotly. I've seen several of the newer ones sell for lower than release price. That's just the newer ones mind you. The oldest Bowens still sell high. You also need to see who scuplted it. If Bowen himself sculpted it, that will affect the secondary market price too I've noticed. Bowen's scuplts tend to hold their value.

EDIT** I just looked and Bowen sculpted it. You may not be able to get it for less than release price, but I believe you should be able to get really close to it.

I have to admit I nearly marked out for this one. It's not worth the price, $400 PLUS $22 for shipping, but they look really good. I'd like it better if Vance had Cap's Shield like he did in the comics later, but I realize this is the original team, not the later one.
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/500/medium/Guardians.jpg

With the normal busts being about $50 - $60 each, I don't see how Bowen justifies an average of $80 per bust for what are basically B-list characters. I LOVED GotG as a book and had the entire run, and I'm not interested in this one.

turtlex
02-01-2010, 03:45 AM
Wow, I am loving that new Gambit !!

And yeah, that whole woman-with-no-arms-venus-de-milo-thing ... kinda disconcerting.

Sam, you'll likely see some break-ups/singles on sale at eBay eventually. Otherwise - gosh, yeah, way pricey.

Sam
02-01-2010, 06:10 AM
I don't know about that Pam. I've only seen one break-up of the iron man three packs. Granted I DID see it on auction, but I also saw it sold for less than one third of the set should have too. It wasn't one of the popular pieces.

I wasn't very impressed with the Yondu, but the other Guardians look really good.

turtlex
02-01-2010, 06:13 AM
Well... we can hope, right, Sam?

Honestly, I always forget to search eBay for statues and stuff. You know, on account of not having all the money in the world.

Still kicking myself over missing that bronze Silver Surfer though!

Sam
02-01-2010, 06:21 AM
Those Guardians are on ebay already, and for more than purchase price too. The auction says they're sold out, but according to Bowen's site they're still available. Truth in advertising huh? As for the Silver Surfer, that was probably only offered to the club members, but you can probably find it on ebay somewhere.

I'm still waiting on the Captain America bust that was supposed to be shipped in December. So much for a Christmas gift huh? More like a birthday gift. Last time I (or my wife) buy from Bowen.

turtlex
02-01-2010, 06:37 AM
Bowen tends not to ship on time, if I recall, but you gotta love his stuff.

With statues and busts, I never figure I'll get the item until at least two months after it's supposed to ship. I think my Iceman was three months late.

Some rather excellent Simon Robinson Sculpts here (http://www.simonrobinson3d.com/traditional.html).

I don't know them all, but Hammerstein, Joe Pineapples, Deadlock and Blackblood are robot characters from the 2000 AD ABC Warriors strip. And Slaine is a Celtic warrior from another 2000 AD strip of that name. And there's a rather mean looking Rogue from the Rogue Trooper strip. I'm sure you know Spawn.

Some sexy lady sculpts too although Persephone looks like she could use a pie or two.

I've added a bit of information to the title of this thread ... adding "and Other Cool Comic Retail Items" as I figured this was as good a spot as any to discuss the cool retail stuff that relates to comic books.

Yeah I know. The 12 inchers tend to be pretty pricey. There's a bunch of limited run 2000 AD figures coming out, around the £60 + range. (So far they've just done a limited edition Tharg - the alien editor of 2000 AD. Not really my cup of tea, but a nicely detailed figure. They had a very limited run and there were some smegged off people who missed him. Heh.)

I thought that seemed a lot, but then I did a comparison elsewhere and saw really... it isn't. The latest to be coming out, Mongrol, will be quite a bit more (£125 - £150) but he's a big chunky wide gorilla of a robot. I've only seen blurred images so far, (the company like to tease us) but when we get proper images I'll post him here.

Actually the prices you quoted aren't too bad at all Turtlex (relatively speaking. Anything more than a tenner seems a lot for me.) when I consider your giving it in American dollars and we often pay the same in British pounds!

They're all out of my range, although if they produce some 6 inch figures I might consider them. I imagine there'll be some merchandise when the new Judge Dredd movie comes out.

That Boba Fett is going for £34.99 on the website. He is 8 inches though, and the change in size seems to make quite a difference. (That still seems a lot to me though!) To me a tenner for a figure is enough. Heh.

turtlex
10-18-2010, 09:32 AM
The only "action figure" type of character that I have is Deunan Knute from Appleseed.

She's not an action figure, per se, but is listed as 1:6 Scale Poseable Model Kit .... which basically makes her an action figure.

She was a tad pricey ( about $150 US ) but she's worth it.
