I think he's waiting to put in the final data from the last round.

Looks good Pablo!
I too am glad to see that Duma Key did fairly well. Kinda wish it had made it into the top 10 though.

Matt

I think that may have been due to the fact that a lot of people had not read it yet.

Maybe better luck next year!

At least bears hope so.

Ok, I thought round three was going to be a head-to-head bracket-style elimination round. Problem is that ten does not work in that format unless you give byes. It would have to be four, eight, sixteen or so on. So what format is the last round going to take?

Aaron
02-08-2009, 09:53 AM
It isnt an elimination round, just a series of face-offs. Basically each book will go head-to-head with every other book individually in a poll. Say you have The Stand, as an example...it will be in nine polls. The Stand vs. The Drawing of the Three, The Stand vs. IT, and so on. The winner of each poll will get 0.1 points added to its score. This way every book has an equal chance because it is having to face every competitor.

And the polls will be based specifically on which book you would rather re-read. Starts tomorrow, BTW.

Ok, so it is a round robin. That is cool.

I just started reading Duma Key last night, by the way :)

Speaking of positions, though, all these standings are not really new, they were culled from the two "overview" threads with the tables. Books from 11 to 30 (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?t=6795) are the same as the table in the overview thread for Round 2, and from 31 to 60 (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?t=5965) are displaced slightly due to the fact that Four Past Midnight is actually three spots below non-Round 2 books, thus making Nightmares & Dreamscapes, Firestarter, and Night Shift slide down one spot.

And how are you liking it so far?

mae
02-09-2009, 02:45 PM
Well, like I said I just started last night, and managed to read only the portion I previously read as the short story "Memory". But right off the bat it has a feel of a really good vintage-King novel. And given it finished in 13th place out of 60 King books, that seems about right :)

Great project - well done guys.
Extremely glad that The Stand won out on this one - well deserved recognition of such a great Book.
Surprise for me:- Insomnia only made #20 - I rated it to finish a lot higher.

This is really beautiful and an amazing amount of work went into it, thanks you guys.

Are we going to get a "total votes" number for the entire thing, I would love to know that.

mae
03-18-2009, 01:33 PM
Do you mean total unique votes, Matt? In that case I'm sure Aaron can whip that up without too much trouble.

We also still have to hold the polls for our various appended categories, so while the main prize has been awarded, so to speak, there's still plenty of hardware to go around :)

And I'm really happy everyone appreciates what Aaron and I came up with. I can't wait to do it all over again, this time with Under the Dome :)

It's like a survey looking much better when you find out it was 10,000 people instead of 10

Sweet, great work guys!

I think it turned out pretty much like I expected. Sure a lot of the books at the bottom have not been read, but a lot have not been read for a reason, like Danse Macabre, which doesn't get great reviews.

I'm surprised Drawing of the Three is the top DT book though, I always thought everyone loved Wizard & Glass. *shrug*

some ones to laugh at Roadwork: no one likes this book and I don't know why, personally I loved it and found it to be a very realistic situation that just causes a man to go over the edge. And Wolves of the Calla: I see more people complain how they didn't like this book and that's when the Dark Tower started going down, etc... But then others just love the book (myself included) and have no idea what the others are talking about. lol It's great to see it made a strong showing.

I've expressed my dislike of DT4 (well, that's maybe a tad too strong - I've enjoyed everything I read by King, it's just that one I enjoyed less than most) numerous times, and so I'm not at all surprised to see where it ended up. I'm also unsurprised to see DT2 just miss out on the top spot. It's prefect.
