Thanks to Mr. Rabbit Trick for this info:

From the Mod at SKMB:

Right now he's working on the edits for Under the Dome. He did finish a novella called Mortality but I don't think that's been sold for publication yet.

Hey maybe King is gearing up for another novella collection, like Different Seasons and Four Past Midnight. He's already gotten "Throttle" and now this one. Two more to go.

If it hasn't yet been sold, it'll be a while until it shows up. I can't imagine any publisher, though, who WOULDN'T buy it!

does anybody know if any of his work HAS been rejected in, say, the last 15 or so years? i can't imagine any publisher stupid enough to say no to stephen king but. . . .

In that recent interview with Borders, King said he submitted "N." to The New Yorker but they declined it saying it was too long.

I spoke to Stephen King’s office yesterday about the upcoming novella entitled Mortality. According to Marsha DeFilippo, Mr. King’s assistant, the story will appear this summer in Esquire magazine possibly around July. I’ll post more information when it becomes available.

Still no news about that novella?

Actually isn't going to be released these days? June doesn't have the july number for sale?

Lilja says it will be on newsstands this week.

Randall Flagg

My local Barnes & Noble says June's issue comes out today, not July.

I dont remember have read anywhere what is Mortality about?

Bev Vincent

The story is actually called Morality (not Mortality):

Chad, an aspiring writer who is teaching school until he lands a publishing contract, and his wife, Nora, who is working as a home nurse for a retired minister, are like most people these days struggling financially. Nora is approached by her employer with a proposition that could make their dream of a home in Vermont a reality. But will it be worth the moral consequences?

Bev is correct. The title is Morality.

Mods can you change the title of the thread.

That jibes with the info I received that Esquire comes out ~the 1st of the month, one month before the cover date.

Anyone seen this yet at their local Barnes & Noble or something?

Bev Vincent

Today would be the earliest it would likely show up on a newsstand. Tuesday is the day when new magazines roll out in stores.

I guess I'll just wait for the eventual collection on this one. I remember buying several magazines just for the King stories, and then they *all* appeared in Just Past Sunset.

That, and the nekkid lady plastered on the cover would make me feel awkward buying it in public.

It's Esquire, it's not Playboy.

I just came from Borders and they still had the June issue. I'll try again maybe Thursday.

I still am confused (not something new). My local retailers are not expecting the July issue until mid June.

Esquire article (http://www.esquire.com/women/women-we-love/bar-refaeli-naked-0709?click=pp) about painting Bar Rafaeli, with comments from the artist and the proof reader!

"I had to read her three times because the first read was a wash — I felt disoriented, I wasn't used to the medium, I was rapt by King's wordsmithing. So the real work began on the second and third passes. As I scanned each line, reading the words out loud, checking for trouble spots (afterward, not afterwards, for instance), Refaeli slowly — but all too perceptibly — moved her body according to whatever I needed to get a good look at. Which was distracting, but I thank her for it."

Think of the movie "Indecent Proposal" (with Demi Moore), but without the sex, and the ramifications.

It's a relatively short story, but one of King's better modern works, at least in my opinion.

John's right.

It is fairly short (takes up around twelve pages including art) and it is one of his better, recent short stories.

A good read.

Well it is twelve pages but it's small print and in two columns. I would think it's about the same length as The Gingerbread Girl. Anyway, got my copy today at the B&N. The checkout counter girl gave me a quizzical look and said, "Interesting cover" to which I noted the magazine contained a new Stephen King story, implying I wasn't buying it for the nudity. Only started reading it, though. King is King. It's impossible for him to write poorly. He can make paint drying sound mesmerizing. So, so far good. Too late tonight, I'll have to finish it tomorrow.

There are no places within 40 miles of me that carry the mag. Instead of driving an hour just to buy a magazine, I thought what the hell, I'll just get a subscription. I should have read the fine print since after I PAID for the service, the message telling me my magazine will arrive in 4-6 weeks popped up. I will surely be able to buy the July issue within the next week, so needless to say this was a waste. I guess I can hope that it's a really good magazine. :shoot:

Having read this the other day I have to ask: Are we sure King didn't "borrow" a Richard Bachman story? :scared: To me it just seemed to have a Bachman feel to it.

And, who'd want this guys job...

The Cover Proofreader
Articles editor Ross McCammon, who wrote about Refaeli, was also tasked with checking her for spelling errors.
"I had to read her three times because the first read was a wash — I felt disoriented, I wasn't used to the medium, I was rapt by King's wordsmithing.
