Due to the large amount of nominations, we must do this semi-final polling to determine which stories will actually be in the running for the final voting. There are only ten slots available on the ballot (board restrictions) and we have twelve stories in this category that met the minimum requirements. Those books with more than three nominations will be moving forward automatically.

They are:

The Boogeyman
Here There be Tygers
Lunch at the Gotham Café

Of the following stories only seven will advance to final voting, based on the scoring in this poll. Please choose who your top pick is from those listed. This poll will close in one week.

Nona
All That You Love Will Be Carried Away
Strawberry Spring
1408
The Man in the Black Suit
Mrs. Todd's Shortcut
Crouch End
Jerusalem's Lot
Dolan's Cadillac

The Lady of Shadows

I love 1408 and Dolan's Cadillac and All That You Love Will Be Carried Away..., too.

But ''Jerusalem's Lot'' is different. So that's what I have voted for.

I can't believe none of you voted for Strawberry Spring. That's the scariest story in Night Shift, probably one of the scariest he's ever written!

I may have to miss out on voting here, I have the books but
my memory isn't clear on the finer points of any of these stories:pullhair:
and a reread in less than a week seems entirely to short a time to accomplish it.
I have two books open right now you see. ( that's one more than I can take already)

I voted for Nona. It's one of King's stories that instantly pops into my mind when I think "best short story" - I don't know why exactly, it's just got tremendous atmosphere and it's so haunting.

A lot of great stories, but it's not too hard to pick just one here. The stand-out is 1408.

I too am surprised that Stawberry Spring appears to have gotten little cred. I didn't find it scary, but it does have real merit. At least that of The Man in the Black Suit is being recognized. :)

I am surprised that several stories are not even here to be voted on.

I think the problem is that (if you are fond of short stories) King has written many wonderful ones. :D It's inevitable that some good ones will get missed. Personally I love every story you named, but I'm a bit extreme in my fondness for King stories.
