One of my faves, all A's.

B,A,C

Plot had some good elements to it, but it seemed like it was all set up for DT-7. Character development, particularly Mia was well done. Ending. Did it have an ending? A cliffhanger is not an ending that gets more than a "C" from me.

B, B, C.

Everyone knows that I hated this one, but I didn't want to give it all C's just because I didn't enjoy it.

Jayson is right about the character development of Mia- very well done. In fact, the best descriptions of the metaphysical aspects of the Tower are found in her diatribes with Susannah.

Yeah, it really didn't have an ending and the plot development, well I'm not sure. One annoying aspect of it was the musical staves that just didn't seem relevant in any way. Some of it was a bit disjointed, but I realize that reflects the scattering of the tet, but maybe there wasn't enough pages to warrant such fragmentation?

For aesthetic reasons alone, I think this is the book that should be left behind out of the DT novels. Not because I hated the story, but because as a stand alone novel, its by far the weakest.

I think I'd have appreciated it much more if it were just the long beginning of The Dark Tower rather than a penultimate individual volume. Any one of us would gladly have read a single book that long. Without an ending it felt more like a literary trailer for DT_7.

I agree with you, but I have a feeling no publisher of King's would, if you catch my drift.

I do and I am sure that is, at least in large part, the reason. In that case, he should have gone a bit further before ending 6 and starting 7. Perhaps 7 could start...

...with the tet reunited and Mordred on their trail prior to Algul Siento.

BAC. This was just the weakest of all seven books.

C, B, A for me.

Mia has always seemed like an unneeded character. She served the purpose of telling us more about the Prim and the demons...but such could easily have been done with Mordred.

Anyway, the ending in the Dixie Pig was my favorite part. Like R of G, I feel that King should've ended this one with the Tet entering Thunderclap after Mordred was born.

I gave it a C in character development... of course, I didn't remember Mia until after I rated it and started reading the thread. Even now that I do, I don't think I would change my vote.

Straight B's, only because it's part of the DT canon. My second-least favorite of the series.

ABB.

Some of these DT Books are hard to 'assess' individually.
What's the relative importance of the 'ending' of a mid-series Book as opposed to the ending of a stand-alone Book etc...

It's over 50% A's in the first two categories and considering it doesn't really have an ending to even get a grade for, I think it shows that some people must love S.o.S.

As my second favorite DT novel, after DT2, that's not good enough :P

The only thing I didn't like about this portion of the series was the art...It bothers me (which could be the point).
