View Full Version : Donating to the Fund Raiser

Matt

I am redoing this thread to make it better.

Last year, the vast majority of our donated funds came from people who just gave a bit of money. Either by sending a check or money order or putting something on Paypal.

The base of our success is these types of donations so I'm hoping everyone will dig deep over the next 5 months to give as much and as often as they can.

Each 10.00 donation earns you one entry in our big giveaway where we will be giving back to all of you by handing out King collectibles like you wouldn't believe.

Last year someone who donated 10.00 for one entry earned the Grand Prize. So every little bit counts and helps.

If you would like to give through Paypal:

havenfunds@thedarktower.org

If you would like to mail a check or money order please make it Pay to the Order of TheDarkTower.com with "Haven Fundraiser" on the memo line

Send to:

Haven Fundraiser
51 Pinetree Place
Parachute, CO 81635

Thanks so much everyone, let's make this year even better than the last.

Our fund raiser has grabbed the attention of everyone in the King world because of the intensity, generosity and integrity we displayed last year. It's a wonderful thing.

Are we going to get our little donation bar back like last year? That was fun.

Matt
12-18-2008, 08:37 AM
Yep, in fact, I will be able to get that going here in just a minute.

And our goal is???

Matt
12-18-2008, 08:39 AM
I would like to set our starting goal at $5000.00 this year :o

It's huge but I think we can do it.

Brice
12-18-2008, 08:40 AM
Hopefully we'll have to raise it again.

if we want to donate in someone else's name (like in memory of someone, or in honor of someone) is there a place on the paypal form for that? and is that okay with the ptb?

Matt
12-18-2008, 03:20 PM
That is totally fine with me, just put the persons name in the comments.

If you would like your entries for the donation to go to someone else, please just let me know who that is in the comments or a PM. :couple:

Matt

Could anyone tell me where the bar is?

It's at the top of the main forum page, should be right in your face.

Matt - The current auctions end in a day or so... any hints as to the next ones up for bid?

I'm going to be putting them up today. :ninja:

Matt - that sampler will go out tomorrow morning. PM me when it gets to you safely?

Does it have to be dark tower related or sk related for an auction item? Cuz if not I may be able to scrounge up some items...

I sure will man, thank you

My only criteria for donations is that they need to be collectible...meaning, they would sell on e-bay for instance.

Anything in the horror/sci-fi genre will work. I was talking to someone about some coolio Star Wars stuff that may have gone, but I think only if it was from the original trilogy.

Something non collectible (like a WalMart copy of Just After Sunset, for instance) is fine as long as it is King related.

LadyHitchhiker
02-01-2009, 11:24 AM
I have several collectible type stuff :D Thanks for the info!

Oh btw Matt, when I get my new debit card I'm looking forward to donating but there was a big government sting and as a precaution 400 people's accounts were hotcarded (including mine) and they suggested to everyone in the area to get a new card. What a pain in the ass.

Matt
02-01-2009, 11:25 AM
I heard about that at my bank, don't think any of our customers were affected out here.

It does suck though, safest thing to do imo.

LadyHitchhiker

Yeah but for someone who is relying on rides to and fro it's just one extra hassle to get money... But it's okay.. just a few more weeks :D

Matt

The most recent auctions have closed. 3 items that pulled in 100.00

Great stuff

NeedfulKings

This may have been addressed elsewhere:

I know that if you donate $10, you get one entry. What happens if you win a dtBay item for $50? Do you get 1 entry or 5?

Thankee!!!!

Matt
02-08-2009, 10:00 AM
Since the person winning the auction actually got the item, we are giving (1) entry for winning an auction.

The person who donated the item would get the sale price equivalent in entries.

And speaking of book donations, this year has been truly amazing!!

For all the people that are sending me this great stuff, thank you. I plan to draft a special letter to each of you when this is done that outlines each of your book donations, what auction or giveaway number they were, how much they sold for, who won it and your total contribution this year.

I can't tell you how much I have appreciated the generosity of donating these amazing items for free. :grouphug:

WOW!! That is sooooo cool!! Also a lot of work I'm sure. If you need a hand in any way just holler. I'm retired (retarded!! lol) so I have plenty of time on my hands that i typically spend whittling away at my childrens inheritance by purchasing SK books!! So you might even be doing them a favor! lol lol

Matt

Yep, that's pretty much what we are coming down to.

However, I plan to personalize each of them as much as I can.

Hey, Matt. I offered to donate 10% of the books I sold here in the classifieds to the fundraiser. Would it be easier to wait until a few of them are sold, and do them all together? Wouldn't that cut down on fees? Let me know your thoughts.

-Steve

Matt
03-16-2009, 04:09 AM
That sounds great batsker, if you want to wait until a few more of them are sold and send over a lump sum that would be perfect.

I have a little bit of a Ka Is A Wheel kind of story to convey.

I got a PM from a member here who is also a member at the Collector's Society ( where I track my CGC comic collection ) and through a bit of good fortune for themselves, they found that they have the one single CGC graded Dark Tower Gunslinger Born comic that I've been searching for.

This is the First Issue, Third Printing and it's graded ... 9.8 !!!!

So, this member ( Tical ) contacted me and offered the comic to me to complete my collection and as part of the deal, offered to donate $50.00 of my payment for the comic to the Haven Foundation fundraiser here.

I am over-thrilled with getting this comic and the Haven Foundation getting a cool donation.

So, thank you very much, Tical ! And thank you for your offer for the Haven Fundraiser.

Ka Is A Wheel!

Your local mailman must think you have some sort of successful business operation with all the packages coming and going! :-)

Matt
03-31-2009, 10:48 AM
Yeah, he's a rural mail carrier and we explained to him what was going on. Mostly so he would take boxes to the bank and give them to Dora as opposed to leaving them outside my house.

Matt, I know when you make a donation if you click "return to merchant" you get a message saying "Thanks (username) for your donation" - but is there any system other than that keeping track of how many entries you have in the draw?

Matt
04-02-2009, 12:47 PM
Oh yes.

Me and Hannah maintain a spread sheet that would choke an army.

I cross reference it with itself on just about every page to make sure this thing stays balanced.

You can PM Hannah and she can let you know how many entries you have.

I think I'm going to move us to MS Access next year as it will create form letters and jazz like that.

I have a question. First time donating here (what you all are doing here is wonderful, by the way), and I was wondering if I donate using PayPal, do I have to add my name to it, or do you get that automatically?

Matt
04-11-2009, 05:54 AM
Hey Brian, thanks for the interest.

If you donate using paypal, I normally get your full name and address on the notification, most times.

Sometimes I don't on folks and I'm not sure why, but I assume it's settings on their side.

The Haven Foundation would love a donation if you can.

I think we'll do more than that! :D But why $6,693?

Matt
04-14-2009, 03:16 PM
Because we raised 3307.00 last year and that amount would bring us to an even $10,000.00 over both fund raisers

I sure would love that.
